Tennessee Vols Vs. Florida Gators Animated Drive Chart
Looking at that, Tennessee did a good job just to get out of trouble early and score the first three points of the game. And this was a real game, even after the potentially back-breaking fake punt return that extended a TD drive for the Gators, but opportunities to catch up were squandered by the interception and the fumble. Overall, though, it looks like we matched them drive for drive for much of the game.

KEEP CHOPPING WOOD
I was very surprised with the comments last night. I sense a common disappointment among our Vol Nation here at RTT. What did we expect going into this season?! Be proud of what we did against a very very good team. We had a phenomenal game in my opinion yesterday and there is a lot to build on and be proud of. Hell, last Monday we didn’t even know who our center was! What doesn’t kill us will only make us stronger. I attended the UGA/Arkansas game yesterday here in town and let me tell you-that is disparity. They are where we were four years ago. Most of the pain is over for us. We CAN and WILL start winning again. BELIEVE IN ROCKY TOP!

They didn't punt on the first five drives of the second half
That’s the game. I know the offense made some mistakes, but I have trouble putting it on them. And really, the defense did play well in large part. But. . . they scored 24 points on the first five drives of the second half, and the only one that they didn’t score on was a fumble (although that fumble can DEFINITELY be attributed to our defense). During that stretch, they were 4/6 on third downs (1/1 on fourth), including 3/3 on 3rd and 8+. It’s hard to win with three turnovers, and it’s hard to win with a successful momentum changing fake field goal, and it’s hard to win when you can’t run the ball, but we get stops there and we win. Lots of things to fix for next week, but that’s the big one. And I know, I sound like a broken record.
Also, the field position is also somewhat astounding. Their first three and last four drives all started with less than 60 yards to the checkerboards. That those drives accounted for only 21 points probably says a lot in favor of our defense, but we have to stop giving up the ball in that area.
Still, even though I wasn’t too impressed with Florida, LSU and Georgia are even more unimpressive. Keep building, and we’ll win some games.

Yeah, you could see the fatigue in the defense there.
For all the talk of Florida’s speed, their offense is really just a bludgeon; they just keep hammering at you until you wear down. It’s effective.
To me, the amazing part is how similar the script ran to last week. Florida had one play that got them out of a certain stop on offense (that fake punt, which analogizes to that change-of-direction run for a TD that Oregon had). In the very next drive, Tennessee threw an interception that led to a touchdown. The only difference was that Oregon got the TD off the interception directly while Florida drove for it.
Fortunately, the script from that point forward was better for the Vols. They outgained Florida in the end and kept even on points scored. I think that turnover on the punt made all the difference, too. It wasn’t enough of a break to win the game, but it was enough to keep the team’s heart in the game.
All in all, I’m pleased with the progress.
