Volunteers land TB/KR Devrin Young
5'7 160 pound tailback from Bearden High School, Devrin Young committed to play for Tennessee this afternoon. Through Friday September 24, he has 1006 yards and 15 touchdowns on 57 carries for an average of 17.6 yards per carry in addition to two TD receptions and 3 kickoff return TDs on 6 attempts. He is an unranked 3 star TB at Rivals.com and a 2 star TB at Scout.com. He had an offer from Stanford in addition to interest from Mississippi State, Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Georgia Tech. His awards include the Knoxville Interscholastic League's 2009 player of the year award, and the 2008 News Sentinel sophmore of the year.
He is considered undersized, but could potentially play in the ever elusive gnatback role made popular by Percy Harvin at Florida and as a return specialist. I admit to some concern that we are offering so many lower rated players, but I'm going to give CDD the benefit of the doubt and see how this particular class both finishes in terms of commitments and how they perform before passing judgment on his skills as a recruiter.
Word is he'll be an early enrollee, highlight videos here and here. Posters on Volchat note that he is around the same size that Dexter McCluster was when he enrolled at Ole Miss, but some seem to believe he is being recruited as a defensive back... although that's the first I've heard of that, in addition to recruiting him as a DB just sounding kind of silly. I personally think he's being recruited solely as a returner.

Cool.
The guy is seriously tearing up the football scene in Knoxville. He’d be rated higher if he was bigger, but he might not be as shifty if he was bigger. The guy can really cut.
Sorry
I FanShot a video before I realized you had a link here. The senior year video is really impressive, but who knows what kind of competition that was.
I think versatility and upside are the big things here. We’re hoping he’s our Cobb or McCluster, but if he isn’t, we’re thinking he’s at least good enough to be a return specialist AND a competent backup at either RB or DB. Although at the latter spot, he’s even smaller than both prime examples of underrated DBs that turned out well—Arenas and Rogan.
I just hope this doesn’t mean the staff is losing confidence in its ability to get the top guys on our board.

He plays Maryville tonight, and Bearden is without their best fullback.
He’ll have a chance to shine.

7, maybe 8
The number of times I said wow while watching that FanShot from I_S. I know it’s high school, and I know it’s a highlight reel, but the guy appears to be not only faster but MUCH MUCH FASTER than every other person out there by a long shot. The second-most used word running through my head while watching? Downhill.

He has a certain
CJ2K factor. He has two speeds, fast and damn fast and he alternates them so well it’s almost impossible to pick a good pursuit angle on him. All those highlights by the way done before halftime for the most part. He sat after half for all but one of those games. BEAST.
What do we do if somehow Colt McCoy ends up on an NFL team starting against Vince Young?
One caveat I'll offer with anyone who mentions the Percy Position:
It’s one thing to have a guy who can play it. It’s another to have a team that knows how to use it.
With that being said, cool.
Simulated Gameday Experience - just like the real thing, only we have smoke machines.
With our KR game, I'll just say that there's no where to go but UP.
The COEXIST bumper sticker is ridiculous. How are people supposed to get along when one side is flying planes into tall buildings or wearing sweater vests full of C4 and nails? The faiths are MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE.
