I'm sorry, I just think this is ridiculous. Give me a break.

There is this from Wes Rucker....
@wesrucker247 Wes Rucker
Several have told me New Amsterdam gives away its rooms to frats for free for parties all the time. Might help Woolridge’s case. Not sure.

Accurate

However there is an expectation that said parties will bring in customers, but I could see how having this video shot their would improve their standing in the UT community… And via that attract more customers.

But ultimately it depends on the opinion of any arbitrary out of state organization that rules invisibly and with little to no recourse.

Forgive me

But my first thought was the headline at Xtra should have been “NCAA takes Swipe and Swiperboy”

This just seems a bit strange

Because, well, for one I wonder about the music video — relatively few of Swipa’s videos are done to “Promote UT Sports” or UT in general — so I would like to see the video first, just because the source seemed to word their answer in the worst possible way. Still, you’d hope the fact that Renaldo is also very much a talented young musician will help this, as it’s obviously him doing something to advance a career that is entirely separate from his basketball stuff.

Agreed

However as demonstrated numerous times previously the NCAA rarely makes sense

So.tired of the KNS

They only do any investigative journalism when it’s something negative involving UT. After 2 days their writers were condescendingly tweeting at fans to “get over” the MCB refs, but you can be sure they’ll also be condescending when anyone questions the seriousness of their big exclusive… Which will undoubtedly get wall to wall coverage for much longer(read 100:0) than coverage of the possibility that the MCB refs actually might have made a mistake.

Nothing will come of this

unless Auburn pays off another star player.

I confess to a SECONDARY VIOLATION (and then some)

I shared a potato chip with Brian Williams. It was an improper benefit because I wouldn’t have shared my Lay’s potato chip with any other student. I only shared it with Brian because he was a basketball player for the University of Tennessee. I’ve donated in the past to the University (and I am fat, so that makes me a “big donor”).

Moreover, Brian didn’t pay for the potato chip. He won’t be cleared to play until he contributes the value of the eaten potato chip to a charity. He’s eligible to play because the value of the improper benefit is less than $100.

And, I now have to confess to repeated secondary violations – because everybody knows, that “no one can eat just one Lay’s potato chip”. BWill can eat a lot of chips.

Oh, and Scotty Hopson and Melvin Goins and one of the football players also dipped their hands in the bag of chips a couple of times. Multiple programs involved – sorry, Coach Pearl and Coach Dooley. Yikes! Mr. Hamiliton, it looks like a loss of institutional control because of the repeated nature of the violations across teams!

Is the NCAA stupid, or what?

The COEXIST bumper sticker is ridiculous. How are people supposed to get along when one side is flying planes into tall buildings or wearing sweater vests full of C4 and nails? The faiths are MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE.

Actually....

the NCAA is not even involved with this. This is just a nobody reporter at the Knoxville-News Sentinel trying to generate news. It’s like he’s determined he is going to get the NCAA to “investigate” this horrible violation of all that is holy in college athletics. Even after UT decided there’s nothing here, he keeps pushing it.

sddbaker, I realize the NCCA isn't involved in this one and it's a rogue reporter trying to make a name for himself by getting a story picked up nationally off the wire.

My comment is more generally directed at the ludicrous nature of the question. Letting a student of any type use an unoccupied room without charge in a restaurant bar for – in Swiperboy’s case, what could be construed as an academic – project is just silly.

There was another case where our student-athletes were investigated for free access to a bar (no cover charge) simply because they were athletes. They were cleared because the benefit didn’t exceed $100. No word on whether the get-in-free-no-cover investigation would be expanded to all female students who were highly attractive and also played intramurals.

How about focusing on the shopping of athletes by third parties (Worldwide Wes, Dads, agents, etc) and putting a dollar limit on when an investigation matters (textbooks, Alabama)?

The COEXIST bumper sticker is ridiculous. How are people supposed to get along when one side is flying planes into tall buildings or wearing sweater vests full of C4 and nails? The faiths are MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE.

Second sentence should read *Investigations on letting a student...."*

Oh I absolutely agree....

the nit-picking things like this are addressed, yet the big things aren’t. Or if they are addressed, ludicrous ruling are made (yes, I’m looking at you, Mr. Newton).
