RTT Podcast with Sports Psychologist Dr. Patrick Cohn Tonight at 9:00 ET

No, we're not kidding. For this week's podcast, we'll be joined by Dr. Patrick Cohn, a leading sports psychologist and founder of peaksports.com who's appeared on and in Fox, CNN, USA Today, ESPN, and other giant media companies. Yes, we're talking about the Vols, why do you ask? Do not miss this.

Dr. Cohn will be with us until 9:15. We'll then be joined at 9:30 by Train Island of SB Nation Vanderbilt blog Anchor of Gold, assuming he hasn't yet read Will's post from this morning. Hi, Train! No, you don't need to read that before the 'cast; it can wait until after. ;-)

INT at the goalline in the 2nd

just fine.

holding penalty and 12 yard punt in the third quarter, confidence is shot. negative plays in the third quarter, man. even small ones.

It's a fair point

I’d like to have seen what would’ve happened had we recovered the fumble on the pooched kickoff. But when Worley threw that pick, I told the bunch I was with that if we just played well after that I’d be really impressed.

by Will Shelton on Nov 15, 2011 10:27 PM EST up reply actions

but we did

for a series and a half.

you’re right in that it was negative, but we were on our way to bouncing back. and then. . . 12 yard punt.

definitely

I’d say he isn’t. he never comes into games talking about how we can lose it. he just says we shouldn’t put all our eggs in the basket of that one game.

that said, he’s also not instilling confidence in the face of certain doom. maybe if he does, we just get beaten down even farther (like Will just said). but maybe we also play better. hard line to walk

I'd rather defer

And get the ball in the 2nd half…THIS is where we need something good to happen.

by VolnVA on Nov 15, 2011 9:29 PM EST reply actions

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look at our second half failures. Every single time, the precipitating event has been our first drive on offense. We defer, take the ball in the second half, and then throw an INT or snap it over our QBs head or some crap like that. Seriously, let the defense start the second half. That’s only happened twice in SEC games (Carolina, Arkansas) and we got stops both times. But our first offensive drive of the second half has been a dumpster fire every single SEC game. Except Arkansas, in which we let our D give us some confidence, and then drove all the way across midfield, and then got a holding penalty and a 12 yard punt and that killed it.

But that's why it would be a greater success to make something happen

I hear what you’re saying, but we haven’t scored in the 2nd half in 5 games. IF we came out and scored, it would be HUUUUUUUGE.

Tennessee fans roll their eyes when I talk about Vandy, Vandy fans become ill when I talk about Tennessee.

by VolnVA on Nov 15, 2011 9:34 PM EST up reply actions

it would

but we’re not likely to do that. we’re much more likely to build momentum from the defense than the offense. starting the second half with the ball is certain death

I'd say it depends

On if Bray plays, and how well.

by danmarcel on Nov 15, 2011 9:37 PM EST up reply actions

possibly the two clearest examples of what I'm talking about

are with Bray at QB. Snap over his head against Georgia. INT against Florida.

by Incipient_Senescence on Nov 15, 2011 9:39 PM EST up reply actions

Well if you think it's going to happen no matter what

then by playing defense first we’re only delaying the inevitable. Have some confidence, I_S! Do we need to get the sports shrink back on? ;)

by danmarcel on Nov 15, 2011 9:43 PM EST up reply actions

I'm just sayin'

we’ve come out and made big defensive plays to get some momentum to begin the second half (see: INT against South Carolina). Worley made a mistake, but I think Bray can handle that. But when we’re just coming out of the tunnel, the offense has not been good, even with Bray. Let the defense make a play. And let the offense come out in the first half strong. They’ve actually shown ability to do that.

But that’s not our only problem. You underestimate Vanderbilt’s ability to execute and perform well against other supposedly “superior” opponents at your own risk, sir.

So, something that makes me feel better

on another site I frequent, there’s a guy who makes picks against the spread, usually picks things that make you go “O.o,” and usually picks winners.

He’s been on Vandy all year. Like, when nobody else was on Vandy, he was always on Vandy. And he’s won every time.

When everyone thought Ole Miss pk was a gift, he was on Vandy.

When everyone thought Georgia -11 was a gift, he was on Vandy.

When everyone thought Arkansas -9(!!!) was a gift, he was on Vandy.

Checked his thread this week:

tenny will beat vandy. listen, vandy is a nice story, but second rate qb and all, they dont walk into tenny and beat tenny.

There are a handful people in the world (people a lot smarter than me) who can make me feel better by picking Tennessee. I’ve seen at least two of them pick Tennessee this week.

Heel for school, Vol for life!

Bolts, Preds, Canes (childhood team, home state team, hometown team). Canes mini-STH. Southern hockey solidarity!
