Clemson-South Carolina:
Battle for the Biggest Disappointment?
Formerly 'snail. You get used to it after a while.
that says something about how far those two have come
both teams are 9-2. Clemson and South Carolina are 9-2. Like, Clemson and South Carolina. And you call both disappointing? Hats off to the Palmetto state bunch.

Sure, but it's not just for this season.
Although if you want to split hairs, even this season consisted of Clemson gacking away a potential title shot and South Carolina failing to capitalize on the early-season turmoil at basically every SEC East contender.

I realize that they are disappointments
well, Clemson is, compared to midseason expectations. South Carolina had one upset loss, and it’s hard to call the whole season a disappointment on account of that. They swept the SEC East in fairly impressive fashion (allowed a combined 9 points to Tennessee, UK, and Vandy) and lost the division because their SEC West rotation had a legit top 7-8 team in it, while Georgia’s didn’t. But I’m just saying that Clemson and Carolina being disappointed with 9-2 is quite the step for them.

Yeah, and I can see it for this year.
Normally though, we’re sitting around, looking at two 7-4 teams, and wondering what went wrong, hence my suggestion.

Yeah.....no.
9-2 is not disappointing for either of those schools. Clemson kept from going Clemson until last week and is playing for ACC, and So Car lost Garcia and Lattimore, so anything better than what they put up would be rather unrealistic.

Not just this year, though.
I’ll give you this season, sure, but other seasons don’t count?

Also, because it bears repeating:
LSU outscored the #3 team in the nation 41-3 in 45 minutes. I almost wonder if the most impressive thing we’ve done this year was cut that game to a one-score margin without Bray, Hunter, Jackson, or Lathers.

somebody said in the game thread yesterday afternoon
before the Arkansas game, Tennessee was the only SEC team this year to score a meaningful touchdown on LSU. And we did it with Simms at the helm.

I found that on DocSat.
I don’t think LSU is on par with the best teams in the BCS era (think ‘PA Miami). Given the dumpster fire that we were at that point in time though, maybe we’re showing more than we realize.

I think LSU could give those teams a game, at the very least

It also bears repeating
that many LSU fans think we played a better game against them this year than last year

Just something to think about.
I don’t know if it makes any difference, but we may be closer than we thought at first glance.

I think a lot of us know that.
You look at final scores and go RABBLERABBLERABBLE, but if you look at the games themselves… Florida might have been our worst first half. In second halves against LSU, Bama, and Arkansas we’ve crumbled, but those were also games without our Quarterback.

Ahhhhhhhhh
From which LSU fans? I heard opposite sitting in the LSU section with family/friends this year. I can’t see under any circumstances how we played a better game this year.

Mostly the ones
That want to pretend last year was all their fault — pointing at turnovers, etc. We played a fairly good game against them, though, just missed a few key plays on defense and couldn’t hit those key plays on offense.

Some on And The Valley Shook
and some I know personally – last year we were fortunate with four turnovers. Last year we were outgained by 217 yards, this year by 144.

Also
we’ve averaged more yards per carry (3.83) against them than any other team this season

Incredibly bad call in the Man U - Newcastle game.
To let Newcastle tie it up on a penalty. I don’t watch much Soccer and even I got irritated watching it.

Heh.
Yeah, that’s the fun part of it all. And Man U has crapped out so many chances.

I think I've settled on my ultimate fantasy schadenfreude hope for the game.
USC beats UCLA. (I know, I know. Lay off and hear me out.)
UCLA somehow wins the PAC12CG. (I know. I know.)
7-6 UCLA to the Rose Bowl. USC a full 2 games better in conference, plus tiebreak, yet ineligible. Neuheisel awarded a contract extension. Kiffin trolls Bruins fans all year long. BN is placed in intervention.

it didn't matter. UCLA clinched once Utah went down
but if Erickson isn’t fired in the next week or so, ASU is just trolling their fanbase.
