Congratulations to claireb7tx for finishing first in this week's Rocky Top Talk 2011 Pick 'Em Pool and therefore getting the $10 gift certificate.
Remember, it's okay to buy stuff for a losing team. Really, it is. I have documentation and papers and expert opinions. They say it's okay.
Yeah. So you can get either (1) officially licensed Tennessee Volunteer hoodies, jackets, t-shirts and more at Gameday Depot, or (2) your very own custom tees at the custom store. And any of you folks in the Tri Cities who haven't been in to see us yet, please stop by and say hey. I've suffered a tremendous lapse in judgment and hired an Alabama fan, an LSU fan, and a Florida fan, so I am outnumbered. This is where you say I'm in over my head, have lost my team, and that you're going to hang up and listen. Seriously, though. Come by. Say hi. We're behind Starbucks on Eastman Road in Kingsport. I'm usually there, though most of the time I'm in the back room answering IMs from Brad. Hi, Brad!
Where was I? Oh yeah, claireb7tx, look for a confirmation email with instructions on how to claim your prize. The rest of you, you have one last chance to make a push for the $50 gift certificate for finishing first for the entire season. I'll let Hooper crunch the numbers and tell you your chance of success. He's going to have to email those numbers or put them on a billboard or something, though, because I'm banning him for putting 16 points on Kentucky this week. Hi, Hooper!
The point is, you better get desperate and crazy if you have ground to make up this week.
This week's top ten and the season top ten are below the jump. You can view the full standings at Fun Office Pools.

Note on this week's games:
there are only 14 of them, which means fewer points available. We trimmed it down last year too, because we don’t want the season to come down to who was more right on Florida Atlantic vs. Louisiana Monroe (actual matchup). This also helps protect those at the top of the standings in the final week.
I'm rooting for biologydropout
whoever that is.

Why not?
In most year, the BCS would use that game to decide who goes into the NC game.

And yikes
This is the first time I’ve caught my breath since that game on Saturday, and I made the mistake of visiting some other sites talking about Tennessee. Oops.

If we were an EPL team
we wouldn’t have played Kentucky the last 20 some odd years.

This is also true...
but who would be in our league if it was in confined to the SEC footprint?
Southern Miss? Would we be looking at Arkansas State getting promotion?
I can say...
neither Holtz nor Spurrier would have ended up at South Carolina since they’d be in whatever the football equivalent of a rec league is by 2000.
CBS genius...
says conference title should be a requirement for playing for the BCS title. I do think it should count for some bonus points in the BCS, but that would be pretty stupid if a team went 11-1 and wasn’t allowed to play because their conference just happened to have a team that went undefeated.
That would be alright if it were an actual requirement prior to the start of the season.
But it has no application this year. There is simply no such rule, therefore it should not be considered. Not that the pollsters are that bright.

not that bright...
but also not that organized. There is about a 5% chance the NC Game isn’t between LSU and Bama no matter what happens this weekend, although I suppose OkState beating OU 70-0(not gonna happen) might do it.
I have nothing against Okie State, but I kinda hope they lose just to simplify things.
As a general principle, I would rather have a non-repeat, but there’s no way to justify it this year.

My current favorite scenario is Alabama-Stanford.
Why yes, I would like to see the national title decided by two teams who couldn’t even win their division.
I have no clue how this is going to happen.
Formerly 'snail. You get used to it after a while.

It would probably take a videotape
of LSU players doping themselves during the season. Or something of that magnitude.
But if you really want that kind of chaos, substitute Boise for one of those teams.
by David Hooper on Nov 30, 2011 8:49 AM EST up reply actions
since Boise also didn't win their conference

PAC-12 non-winner vs. MWC non-winner.
Would anybody east of the Mississippi even bother tuning in?
by David Hooper on Nov 30, 2011 9:51 AM EST up reply actions
Conference SHOULDN'T be a requirement.
For the simple reason that not all conferences are equal. Hard to say the ACC, PAC 12, BIG 10(12), BIG 12(10), big east champs are better than AL or even AK this season. Put those teams in any other conference and they win them easily. GA may even win any other conference. NC game should always be between the two best teams regardless of conference. Just my opinion, but seems logical.

This year, Georgia could only hope to be in a three-way tie for the MWC. ;-)
But your point is valid.

Saying something I never thought I'd say...
Les Miles may be the single most intelligent person coaching college football at the moment.
We make fun of him, but I’m watching this CBS interview and he is the only coach I’ve ever seen that goes out of his way to explain things clearly and honestly in these interviews. He strikes me as having his head in the clouds at times, but also as an extremely intelligent man.
