PrintThe men's basketball live threads return tonight as the Cuonzo Martin Era opens with an exhibition battle against Carson-Newman. The game will be streamed live at UTSports.com with a 7:00 PM ET tipoff.
The Vols will roll with old faces in the starting lineup: sophomore Trae Golden at point, sophomore Jordan McRae (now wearing #52) and senior Cameron Tatum at guard, ad juniors Kenny Hall and Jeronne Maymon at forward. Martin wants to run a nine man rotation, so keep an eye on playing time off the bench, where you'll likely see returning players Skylar McBee and Renaldo Woolridge (now wearing #3) up first. True freshman Wes Washpun (#4 - CHI$$LE!) should be the backup point guard.
New faces and jersey numbers: freshmen guard Josh Richardson (#1), guard Quinton Chievous (#31), center Yemi "Can I just call you Yemi?" Mankanjuola (#0), and juco forward Dwight Miller (#25). And hey: Tyler Summitt may still get some action.
(You could also use this as a Thursday Night Football thread, but I mean, you should probably watch this instead of Florida State/Boston College.)

Three weeks late, but it's finally here!
The Guessing Game Updated standings for Joel to see, sometime, since I’m too busy (and too lazy) to open gmail.
For the record, I think Birdjam has won 7 of the 8 haikus to date, so he’s got 9 “normal” points — I mention it because he said he’d prefer the points for the Haiku not to count. But I still say go for it, because his haiku-skills are crazy good.
I should be listening in to the feed tonight, but probably won’t be able to do too much watching.

A word of warning...
LMU was the winner of the South Atlantic Conference at 27-3 last year. Carson-Newman finished in 7th place at 11-16.

*Pearl’s last recruiting class will save our bacon. McRae and Trae are far and away our best players.
*Maymon is a force on the glass. Again. Offensive game looks mildly improved, as do FTs. We’ll see what happens against real opponents.
*Cam? Cam?
*Three point shooting and FT shooting will still be inconsistent.
*We don’t have a consistent scorer inside.
*Yemi Power will be awesome when he figures out what’s going on. Very, very raw, but crazy athletic.
*Woolridge still isn’t great, but he’s added a new dimension to his game: not jacking up threes.

is the most overblown player we’ve had in a long time… had to listen to fan after fan suggesting that Tatum would be better than Lofton and turn into an All-American.
He’s never had a good shot. Just wish he’d figure it out and learn to play within his abilities, because he does have some pretty good skills.
When Cam was on, he was better than sophomore Hopson
he just never developed consistency. And junior Hopson developed significantly, obviously.

Yeah, that worried me a bit.
But both teams are on 4 days rest, which seriously favors FSU. And FSU’s problems came primarily due to a QB change because of injury. After a couple games, they seemed to reorganize.
and Tulsa with the biggest WTF play in a while...
Tailback was going to get tackled for a loss, and it looks like he tried to throw a shovel pass and tossed it right to a LB.

Refs overturn a 4th down conversion for Tulsa on very tenuous evidence.
Always find it odd how some refs always try and get the actual call correct, and some live and breathe the indisputable evidence rule.

yeah, that's totally not happening
killed it last week (11-4, with my big play coming in HUUUUUUUUUGE. . . seriously, can we talk about me picking Iowa State last week? one of my finer moments), but I’m just not really feelin’ this week. There were a couple plays that I liked, but nothing that I love.
