I like Tennessee and Vanderbilt. There aren't many like me, and they're probably better off for it.
Guess my work network was shutting it down
I’m good now.

That's disappointing
I want to believe in Da’Rick because he’s really talented…but I don’t have a lot of patience for that kind of attitude.
I like Tennessee and Vanderbilt. There aren't many like me, and they're probably better off for it.
I wonder if there's a correlation between Da'Rick taking plays off and the rest of the team going into a shell.
E.g. did his ‘not bringing it’ vs. Arkansas spur other people on the team to mail it in?
That's a really interesting thought

But whether or not we have a good RB, the O-line is what it is.
Is it a good O-line with sub-SEC RBs, or is it a bad (run-blocking) O-line with sub-SEC RBs?
Certainly need to get much, much stronger
IMO
Holdin' it down on enemy grounds.
Anti-Snail on offense; Give me a slobberknocker, or give me death!
I'll say...
the run blocking looked a lot better, to me, than the performance would indicate.
Every one of our TBs was pretty bad about completely missing holes and going down easily.
So what you're saying is
That a bunch of 19-year old kids need to grow up? My mind…it is blown.
I like Tennessee and Vanderbilt. There aren't many like me, and they're probably better off for it.
We could start by treating them as the legal adults they are and letting them succeed or fail on their own merits.
But that’s really an argument I have with college in general. Biggest day care system in the country.
heh...
Given how high schools are these days with everyone and their brother getting handed 4.0 GPAs while someone holds their hand, I think just releasing these kids with no safety net is a recipe for a 15% graduation rate.
College is a place to learn how to be an adult, can’t expect a freshman away from home for the first time not to screw up some.
I know. Colleges can only work with what they're given.
But even then, colleges almost universally screw it up. The only thing in their favor is that most college kids have no clue just how much colleges treat them like children.
UTK did everything in its power to be incompetent with me...
they actually removed me from the system twice, screwed me out of housing and cost me about 2 grand each time.
Not surprised.
UT is an admin monster. Not that anyplace else is different. But an admin monster nonetheless.
Actually...
I fully believe most high school grads should take a few years to live on their own and get used to being responsible before going to college. Assuming the kids are actually responsible enough to go back.
Agreed.
And many college students should give serious consideration to trade school. I hate the bias we have against trades, for one, but how many people would prefer 2 years of welding classes and starting at 80k rather than 4 years of a much more expensive college experience and maybe 50k start?
But I’m going waaaaaay off topic here.

Hard to convince parents...
that their “special little angel” isn’t college material.
I once sat through a freshman calculus class where one of the students didn’t know what =/= meant. And that’s not even close to the worst example.
One nice thing about math-y classes is if you can't solve the problems, you can't hide it.
Not all humanities are that way, but I certainly don’t envy their task with that, especially for kids with helicopter parents who, by the way, are major donors. What a mess.

I would absolutely love to teach at a University. I just always loved the environment in academia.
It's a lot of fun.
Most of my experience is via the Navy rather than college, but this semester’s class has been illuminating. Probably not going to do it again for a while, but at least I can say I did it.

Actually debating between...
the Air Force reserves in Knoxville and active duty Navy.
Great way to pay the bills, but I am curious as to what opportunities there are in the Navy for journalism grads. The whole point of me joining the Navy is because ships and the ocean are awesome… would not want to be a desk jockey.
I can answer some questions if you ever wanted.
Either way. I promise not to speak beyond my knowledge or try to advise or sway opinion.

Just herd the dumb donor kids...
into a football major. I know Middle Tennessee State has a “University Studies” major which has literally zero requirements other than total hours. It’s used to push kids out the door.
That's how Universities pay the bills.
Take their student loan money for 4-6 years and leave them to foot the bill once they walk away.

Or just not mature enough yet.
I saw a massive increase in maturity in my son around the are of 20 – 21. He was always a “good kid”, but tended to subtlety follow rather than lead. While he’s still not super leadership material, as he matured he became much more likely to put his own spin on things, rather than copy someone else.

Voluntary workouts?
That’s a hell of an intramural basketball team…
I like Tennessee and Vanderbilt. There aren't many like me, and they're probably better off for it.
Just in case...
I’ll point out that the voluntary workouts were, in fact, for the football team and not our awesome basketball team that would’ve won it all if not for catastrophic injuries during the playoffs. That was the extent of my “journalistic” career while a student at UT: a month at the Beacon and eavesdropping on Haynesworth’s phone calls.

This makes more sense
I was envisioning you giving ol’ Albert a ring, but I had it all turned around.
Intramurals are a funny thing. I was once on a co-ed football team that advanced to, and won, the championship by virtue of winning one game: the championship game.
I like Tennessee and Vanderbilt. There aren't many like me, and they're probably better off for it.
my junior year intramural soccer team was fun times
we lost to the two-time defending champs in the first game, falling behind 6-0 and losing 6-4. We ended up with two losses but made it back to the championship game. My school had a speaker series on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and every student was required to go to at least 17 in a semester. Well our opponents (the two-time defending champs) made an announcement about the intramural final and to come watch them, because “[they] are intramural soccer.” I went full-time sweeper that game, and we won 3-0.

watching his videos...
the guy has good moves and speed, but phenomenal balance. He runs low to the ground and leans into the contact. Reminds me of Travis Stephens… which would obviously be just about the most important person the Vols could sign in terms of improving our prospects for the 2012 season.
and a quote from Davis...
"I am just getting back from Tennessee…The players there are so positive. It’s a great affect being around those guys."
I only use this because of the “positive” comment. That definitely doesn’t jive with the sky is falling crowd.
Granted it was from a Florida recruiting site
But in talking about Davis opening his recruitment, it didn’t list UT as being in the running despite the fact that he had just taken a “surprise” official visit.
