Orange and White Spring Game Thread
This here's your official RTT Orange and White Game thread. If you're going to the spring game, everything you need to know is here, but if you're not, the most important thing to know is that the game will be streamed live at Fox Sports Tennessee. The audio-only steam is at UTSports.
Other particulars to aid in today's viewing:
The gates open at 12:30 and kickoff is at 2:00. My plans are to get there at about 1:30 or so and sit in the lower level of the JumboTron end zone as close to the field as possible. I'll be wearing this Tennessee t-shirt and this Tennessee SEC hat, and I'll be with my daughter who will be wearing this Tennessee ladies jacket. If for whatever reason the plans change (I may move around a bit to try to get some pictures I'm going to need for this year's Maple Street Press annual), I'll try to remember to tweet my location. Stop by and say hi if you get a chance.

Hooray for teh interwebz!
Although it’s not making this paper any easier to write.

Toney Willams really impressed me (so far)
I seem to remember Williams had a great Spring game under Kiffin, but tore his ACL immediately afterwards. Like they said, he could be the power back we need.

Shocked...
He’s been able to run as well as he has… it’s not the line blowing open holes for him, he just looks like a legitimately great TB
I did the same at Georgia Southern's spring game last night
Except I used a pad of paper. I got some looks

Malik Jackson rocked the draft for these teams
He stacked his o- and d-lines and let the skill guys come to him

Does anyone know who is calling plays for the Orange team?
Whoever it is plays too many video games.

Well...
Bray looked good for a drive there…
Not sure why we ran the same exact pass play 3 times in the redzone
The playcalling for Orange has been awful
It seemed like they ran everything out of the shotgun, and always threw it on first down. If Orange can establish some sort of run game, that would really help them out.

Here's the data...
I’m sure it’s not perfect and I know some formatting is bad, but it’s what I got down if anyone is interested in looking.

So, maybe it looked different on TV
But in person, I was much, much more upset with Justin Hunter than Tyler Bray. Tyler was putting balls on the money. Justin was dropping them. I fear for our WRs. Also, Matt Simms’ little move to the crowd after his sneak TD was so awesome. We had just booed the refs for not giving him the TD on the previous play. Dude looked like he was having run. I respect that.
Also, was Toney Williams as awesome on TV as he was in person?

I missed that
What was the move/gesture to the crowd?

It wasn't much, but it was fun
And by the way, FUN, not run. Anyways, Simms’ TD was right in front of me; I was dead center in the end zone where it happened. On the play before, he had scored, and we were in the process of booing the referees for calling him out at the two (obviously in a poking fun sort of manner) when they were lining up for the next play. So he slightly fumbles the snap, and then just plunges through the line for two yards and a touchdown, runs to the back of the end zone, looks up at the crowd, and spreads his arms out real big in a “see, look at that? boom!” sort of way. Maybe it was just a usual celebration, but I think he was playing off our reaction to the previous play, and I enjoyed it.
By the way, sorry we didn’t say hi. We were planning on heading over at halftime, but then we saw the flag football guys lining up in our end zone, so we stayed.

Cool. I think I read somewhere this morning that some other guys were razzing him to repeat his LSU end zone celebration, so I’m guessing that’s what that was.
And the flag football game on the other side of the field was sort of the last straw for me — we actually took off about that time anyway.

The athletic department lied to us! They said south end zone! Get your torches!
I think what really happened was the players decided they didn’t want to walk all the way down to the other end of the field. Still the flag football game was the highlight of the day: Terry Fair made a better catch than any player past or present, the 100 yard pick six was fun, and my boy Pfeiffer matched his career total for touchdowns.
