C. Clark Wins The 2011 RTT Bracket Challenge
Congratulations to C. Clark, who, much like UConn, came out of nowhere to win RTT's 2011 Bracket Challenge. Because we're keeping track of these things, the Pythag bracket finished a disturbing 58th. That makes one out of three years that it hasn't done well (in the top three, if I remember right), so we'll scowl and wag our finger at it and give it another chance next year.
The top ten are after the jump. Full results here. Thanks to everyone for playing.

I have used KenPom's pythag
as the basis of my picks for the past 6 years. I start with objective Offensive Efficiency and Defensive Efficiency and Tempo rankings then start making eyeball adjustments (Richmond over Vandy? that doesn’t look right…) It appeals to my logical and mathematical nature (I program computers for a living, so logic is my friend)
This is the first year that my bracket hasn’t at least placed in one of the 3-4 pools in which I play… This year I am dead last in 2 out of 3 pools. I don’t think the issue is with the pythag formula necessarily. A deviation from the norm of this magnitude is indicative of an error in the system, in this case I am going to call it brain-dead seeding.
However, the pythag can’t take into account a lot of things either. It thought that Michigan would beat Tennessee in a tight game. There’s no part of the formula that can take into account a program’s AD back-stabbing the coach hours before game-time
Schadenfreude: The only thing Vandy fans really have to comfort them when they realize that they are still fans of Vandy.
I think lots of people, regardless of formula or method
had their worst bracket ever this year (including me – a robust 74th out of 105) just because the whole thing was so screwy.
I did (see below comment)
My local pool was won by our department administrator who didn’t know what March Madness was until I organized the pool. I finished last.

I spent 10 minutes tops on the bracket, including thought.
Improper learning methods and reinforcement: achieved.
Formerly 'snail. You get used to it after a while.
5th percentile
Whoever C. Crain is, thank you for preventing me from being dead last.

I would like to point out
that I had the highest point total of all people picking Tennessee to win. What does it prove? Absolutely nothing. But it’s my moral victory. :)
i was in the 12th percentile
after the first weekend, finished in the 97th.
i hadn’t checked my bracket again until last night during the game when i realized this was actually my best year.
