In Search of Info on Denarius Moore
Greetings Rocky Top Talk! I have traversed the blogosphere from Silver and Black Pride to discuss your former player and our current player, Denarius Moore. Any information you can offer up will be greatly appreciated as I plan on taking any info you can offer and reposting on S&BP.
We have read the scouting reports and seen the highlights, but that really paints an incomplete and often contradictory picture. I've always felt the best way to get a real feel for a player is to talk to the people that watch him play in and play out. And that is one of the truly great things about SBN. We all have easy access to this tremendous wealth of information.
So, as I said anything you can share is fantastic. I do have a couple of questions. How is his route running? Did you see him make big strides throughout his career?

The point we keep making
is that he played with four different play-callers and four different starting quarterbacks during his career, so it was incredibly difficult for him to find any stability. When we put Tyler Bray in as a true freshman starter for the last five games of the season, Moore exploded and really helped make him look good – he made some incredible catches on some deep balls that Bray threw his way. Gerald Jones really became the underneath/third down guy for us during that time, while Moore was the big play specialist.
So I think it’s clear he made huge strides in the last half of his senior season, but who’s to say that if he had the right quarterback or even the same quarterback for a longer period of time, he wouldn’t have made those strides sooner and been drafted much higher.
Nice! One thing he should get as a Raider
is the chance to make plays down the field

I would say one of his best attributes would be his mentallity
There were so many times this past year that you could just tell he was going to catch anything thrown his way and do his best to take over a game. He had the mentality that he could beat anybody defending him and he wasn’t going to be stopped. He made some great catches this year. I think if he carries that mentality with him to Oakland he can be a great wide reciever. I think all Tennessee fans are wondering how good he could have been had he some form of offensive consistancy throughout his career.
My thoughts (some of which overlap with Will's):
*Denarius Moore has an uncanny ability to get behind the defense. He does it every week, and you’d think people would stop it, but they don’t.
*You have to take into account when evaluating his stats that he had four QBs and four play-callers in four years.
*That said, once Tyler Bray game into the picture, Moore exploded, with 724 yards and 5 TDs over the last six games, including a pair of 200 yard games (which has never been done at WR U).
*Moore’s most frustrating quality throughout his career was making the easy catches. Most memorable was a deep pass in which he was 5-10 yards behind the defense in our ‘09 bowl game against Virginia Tech. A catch is a TD that brings us within 4 in the fourth quarter, the drop ended with us getting beaten by 24. But this wasn’t a one-time thing—he consistently lost focus on the easy plays throughout his career. You’d hope that will improve as he gets older, and it might be improving, as I don’t remember any examples from the second half of this season.
*The other side of that is that he made the spectacular plays. In the second half of the season, Bray just tossed the ball up deep and let Moore go get it, and Moore got it. Also, that touchdown against Georgia last year will never be forgotten. You have to watch this.
In short, Moore has way more potential than your average 5th rounder. I don’t see him as a Pro Bowler (then again, we didn’t see Arian Foster as a Pro Bowler), but he has the potential to be a nice deep threat and big play specialist.

That's awesome! Great reach for paydirt
He is going to be fun to watch. Say what you want about the Raiders offense, but they give a chance for big time playmakers to showcase their skills, and it certainly seems like Moore fits that bill.

You have to look several times at the video
before you see what Denarius really did. That feat took every inch of muscle, agility, determination and athletic ability. He refused to hit the ground or go out of bounds until he got the ball over the pilum. Can you see him straining to keep his foot off the graound? I can only compare it with a Reggie Bush (Heishman year) highlight.. It was that unreal.
And folks, don’t be angry about the Bush comment…..dude had a awesome season that year with some of the greatest highlights ever.
Hi guys
I’m also a Raider fan sniffing around for info on Moore.
Do you think he could be a possession-type receiver in the NFL, or is he too inconsistent with his hands?
Thanks in advance.
Also, Lance Kiffin sucks.

This day will be when the Raiders win a Super Bowl in my lifetime.

his hands might improve, but to make him a possession receiver is to ignore his biggest asset
which is his ability to get behind defenses. Also, he never really filled that position with UT because Gerald Jones was doing it (and doing it quite well).

In agreement.
He is not a possession receiver. Compare him to Jerry Rice’s counterpart John Taylor.
He is NFL fast…regardless of what his 40 times read. He’s agressive and surprisingly physical. When he does get the ball in his hands, he doesn’t like to go down.
I've written this before, but it bears repeating
I believe Moore to be quite possibly the best bargain in the draft. He is a legit home-run hitter with legit NFL speed. I thought he was a bargain in the 3rd round. He’s a steal in the 5th.
Also, his 40 time was pretty good. 4.37 is legit, no?
...just apologize for not thanking me.
I've read a posted 40 time
listed at 4.43. That ain’t bad but can’t be consider home run speed. 4.37 is closer to the truth. But as you can see, many of us here agree that he is a under valued selection.
