Not sure what to think about this
With them being in the NCAA’s crosshairs as well……

Hello ladies. Look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly, he isn't me.
He's also got Duke Lacrosse baggage
This may be many things, but I’m not sure it’s the hire you make when you want to stress doing things the right way

LSU was commended this year for their top notch compliance work and cooperation with the NCAA
But on the minus side, they’re mixed up in the Will Lyles stuff, and he was also in the Duke Lacrosse thing, as you said. And I don’t see a great hiring/firing track record.
My initial response is one more mark against Jimmy Cheek.

Should also point out
that you can make a very good argument that the thing the athletic department did best over the last year was throw everyone wildly off the trail of Cuonzo Martin during the hiring process. Not sure that sort of trickery is needed here, but we have been very good at smokescreens in the past.
fair point

Nevermind
Now we’ve got LSU’s chancellor acknowledging our interest and saying “the ball is not entirely in my court right now.”

damn
I don’t see this as a good hire.
Although it really may help with the NCAA. If they were impressed with his compliance efforts at LSU (which they were, at least before the Lyles stuff), and they’re impressed with CDD and CCM, this should just be another piece of evidence saying we’re playing this the right way.

LSU beat writers now reporting it's a done deal
I think this might be our standard overreaction. We have an AD whose hires have gotten in trouble with the NCAA, and now we hire a guy who is quick to throw everybody under the bus at the first sign of trouble (see: canceling the entire lacrosse season for 47 players after 4 of them are falsely accused of rape).

Aside from the general malfeasance concerns...
Has anybody else been to Baton Rouge recently? Their campus/athletic facilities suuuuuuuuck. Overall hideous construction and very, very dated. Nicest thing there is Mike the Tiger’s habitat. I hope he knows what he’s doing with facilities because the state of affairs down there when I was down in June made me wonder how they get anybody at all to go play for them.

On the plus side, we should be able to get excellent deals on taffy.
I don’t know enough about LSU’s overall program (other than they have an excellent track program) to comment much beyond that. That is, if this is how we’re going.

I just know that LSU fans want rid of him
and that makes me not want him. That and the Duke lacrosse ghost following him around.

A lot of LSU fans choose to continue living in Louisiana
I’m not sure we can trust their judgement. ;)

Jimmy Cheek...
is the most pathetic jackass in college administration. A guy in his position should be invisible, instead he seems to want to play General Manager.
His departure is inevitable, but I have never seen a college administrator more responsible for athletic failure than him. The man is about as good at his job as I would be if Alabama hired me.
It's being reported that we're not hiring him
woo!

I'm temporarily off the Fire Jimmy Cheek bandwagon
I was on it when it looked like he was going to make this hire, now I’ll give him a reprieve to see who he actually does get. I’d heard rumblings about the ADs at South Carolina and SMU, both of whom looked like great hires.

Not me
Cheek deserves a substantial amount of credit for the PR’s beatdown of UT. Hamilton is on the hook for a ton also, but Cheek is chasing him down for MVP.

So this was a cash grab?
I’m not sure how I feel about that.

There was a time...
Where we were heads and shoulders above LSU as an AD. Those days are behind us, at least for now… and it would shock me for the LSU AD to come here without out overpaying.
Hard to believe there was a time that we were better thsn 20-3 vs. LSU all-time in the recent past.
Yeah, that's what I mean.
It’s just …weird. I’d be hard-pressed to say that we weren’t aware of the recent shift in where we stand on the national landscape, but this kind of hammers the point a bit, no?

I think LSU shifted up more than we shifted down
we definitely have shifted down, and that’s extremely frustrating. but they had two football titles and a final four last decade

His hires..
Carl Franks = (7-45)
Ted Roof = (6-45)
David Cutcliffe = (12-24)
Joan McCallie = (114-26)
Beth Torina = (95-36)
Nikki Caldwell = (19-13)
One concern I have is his son’s accident drinking and driving while he was in the car. Not sure how you can get this past some of the puritanesque higher ups.
