Yahoo! Sports expose on the University of Miami
I must say I'm completely shocked by the level and degree of the alleged actions here. We've seen many different forms of cheating over the last few decades in general and few years in particular, but this, this is just incredible.

One of the worst parts of this in my opinion.
The AD at Miami on whose watch most of this occurred chaired the NCAA’s committee on infractions in 2010 and may still do it now, I don’t know.
Horrible.

Not suprising at all is Kellen Winslow soldiering his way throughout this whole thing.

Starting in 2008, he was the one that gave the Reggie Bush money quote. It seems he is vice chair now, but I cant find the date where it changed.

Hey!
Look its our old friend!
Does this mean we get to vacate all of the Lane Kiffin wins?? Pretty please??
Bring it across, shape it down
Hopefully whomever Kiffin was using will keep his mouth shut
Because I now have no doubt that he does this type of garbage. You’ve got Orson Charles involved along with Bryce Brown.
I don’t think this could hurt us, but it’s probably gonna cost ole’ Brycie some eligibility.

Hello ladies. Look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly, he isn't me.
I think it certainly could hurt us...
… to the extent that he played in any games that we won at a time when we knew (or should have known) he was ineligible due to improper benefits offered to him by Kiffin/Orgeron and others. But whether it will, I kind of doubt it.
But thank God that gang is no longer here. We should have been burning mattresses in celebration the night they stole away in the darkness, not in frustration.

lol
The level of surprise that he and his street agent adviser Brian Butler was involved? Non-existent.

They qualify for repeat violator status too...
as their last probation ended in 2005. Any violations committed within 5 years of a probationary period fall under repeat violations.
Hence the proverbial death penalty is absolutely in play… and I would argue that it’s use is a necessity if even half of this is true and the NCAA wants to retain any credibility.
I would think that his might hurry the Tennessee investigation along.
And the rest of ‘em, just to clear up some resources to tackle this one. They’ll want to end this as soon as possible (if they have any brains about themselves) so it doesn’t drag on for longer than it has to.
by David Hooper on Aug 17, 2011 9:18 AM EDT up reply actions
Also this
With something like this (and, arguably Ohio State) further down the docket, the NCAA would have to leave some room for harsher penalties when it deals with Tennessee, right? Right?

In that Real Sports piece on Auburn a while back...
… someone was complaining that the NCAA doesn’t have enough investigation staff – they only have like 44 investigators. I say they could fire the rest of them and hire Yahoo!’s people.

Strike "hire" and replace with "outsource" and we have a deal.

I think Dr. Saturday had the right idea about the death penalty here.
Practically speaking, if this isn’t a death penalty case, then the death penalty no longer exists.
by Knox the Fox on Aug 17, 2011 10:56 AM EDT up reply actions
Which may be the case
But if it doesn’t exist anymore, they need to remove it from the bylaws.

though he didn’t get much PT on either side, he does have a college world series ring and a MNC ring. I doubt he merited any benefits, but I’ll see if he’s willing to divulge. Hooray facebooks.

Sort of along that line...
Former pitcher Chris Perez, current closer for Cleveland, said that he wasn’t bothered by the scandal…but rather by the fact that The U was so mediocre while they were cheating.
Hilarious.

c'mon
you gotta love Kellen Winslow crashing his jet ski into another boat, whose damages were then paid for by Ponzi Scheme money. You just can’t make this stuff up.
Also, Devin Hester, you let the dude by your engagement ring AND the tickets to the NBA game at which you proposed? Seriously, man up.

I was just really bothered...
by the part where he paid for the abortion for the stripper and never told the guy because “the idiot might want to keep the kid”… plus everything leading up to said abortion. It’s all so scummy.
….shudders….

and it’s hands down the scummiest thing that happened. But the Kellen Winslow bit was hilarious

If FSU came to the SEC, there would be no other major conference presence in the state of Florida.
(At this point, I don’t consider Miami to be a “presence” for the ACC.)

Any Takers
On how many U players end up at UT after the Big Red Button is pushed?
As I recall when SMU went down many of the players were allowed to transfer and lost no eligibility
BloodSpite
"Gentlemen, it is better to have died as a small boy than to fumble this football." John Heisman
Probably a few. 5-10ish?
UT certainly could use more depth, and will probably still be in that boat in next offseason (which is when I expect this to be resolved). It’s not another Florida school, which might make things a little less painful for some players.
I think the NCAA BanHammer will come down only if Miami’s admins knew what was going on, or could only not know if they were actively trying to be blind to the situation. (That seems plausible, given how brazen this was, but I think this will be the central issue in the investigation.)

I'm more interested in the 4 star recruits they have committed.

Hello ladies. Look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly, he isn't me.
Its one of the few scenario's
Where us being light may play out big for us.
We’re close to a school (geographically speaking) that they originally chose
We need depth
They need a team
They have a good chance of getting play time (depending on position)
And last I looked I believe we still have scholarships to spare where many at this late n the game have burned theirs for the year, so we have the ability to grab some
Will be interesting to see what happens.
of course all of that is dependent upon that button being pressed.
Sort of a Lady or the Tiger moment.
Will the NCAA prove itself relevant or irrelevant?

Coming clean to the feds to save your hide is one thing,
but this guy Shapiro seems to take special delight in giving his story to Yahoo Sports. I don’t doubt the truth of most of it, but I think this guy has some screwed-up hidden agenda for talking. More than just revenge against the players that abandoned him. So strange.
The hidden agenda is that he's a horrible person.
