RTT Podcast Tonight at 9:00 ET with Bud Elliott and Chris Pendley
On tonight's RTT podcast, Will, Brad, and I will be joined by Bud Elliott of SBN's powerhouse FSU blog Tomahawk Nation, who will talk to us about why size matters along the defensive front seven (be sure to pre-read his article on this in the Volunteers Kickoff preseason annual), and our own Chris Pendley, who will join us to discuss the fantastic article on Jim Chaney's offense that he contributed to the annual.
Hope to see you on the podcast tonight. Here's the pertinent info for that:

Interesting one tossed about on Anchor of Gold today
How does a possible Miami implosion impact the likelihood of the SEC being able to expand there?
it's my understanding that Chaney's system prefers a TE or WR3 to a FB
But how does that work in practice when Fugate is vastly more experienced (and/or beastly) than any of the TEs or WR3 candidates? You have a good guess as to how that’ll all play out?

Just went through Bud's article in the annual
and if you replace the projected starters of Lathers, Vereen, and Bohannon with the actual starters (as of now) of Johnson, Maggitt, and Walls, you increase the size of the front seven by 75 pounds, bringing the total from 1729 to 1804 (If Ben Martin replaces Marlon Walls, drop it back to 1790). That’s suddenly a decently-sized front seven, and really goes to show how much bigger the newcomers are than the old hands.

If either of you are interested, it’s in this thread. I recommend going through the comments and paying attention to bobo’s from the beginning up until the comment at 9:30 PM EST. (This one.)
The reactions that follow capture it well, and it stuck after Joel followed that thread up with this Talking Points the next morning. (The comments there are pretty good too.)

Remember, mine was stumbling on an 80s article from the New York Times and thinking that USC had been put on probation (waaaaay before they actually were). I even checked the date! Sports Animal doesn't have the Dooley interview from Wednesday up by itself
but you can listen to it here until they refresh it with Thursday’s 5:45 segment. Dooley comes on at around the four minute mark – it’s a really good interview.
You can also get some quotes from it from The Sports Animal’s Twitter feed.
Again, let me stress
most of Dooley’s interviews are really good. This one is really, really good – it’s got Bray stuff with the 10 of 20 for 200 yards vs 18 of 20 for 105 yards conversation we mentioned in the podcast, but also Dooley’s thoughts on Texas A&M and Miami, scheduling FCS teams, and more.

I do like his “if we’re playing I-AA, we should do it in-state” comments.
And I always love his shoutouts to the fans. I heard he had the team run ALL the Neyland steps, got them up in the upper deck and told the players that there were 102,000 people watching them each week, and they need to be running for the people up there in the nosebleeds. As someone who sits up in the nosebleeds, I appreciate that. Bet some of the players had never even been up there.

Knew there was something else I meant to post
here’s the recap of the Drew Brees vs. Ron Dayne game from 1998 when Chaney was at Purdue.
Brees, again, in regulation: 55 of 83, 494 yards, 4 TD, 2 INT
Dayne: 33 carries, 129 yards. Commitment to the run game is when you’re only getting 3.9 per and you still decide to give your back 33 carries.
Barry Alvarez in the postgame:
“I don’t think I’ll have to answer any more questions about whether our young secondary has been tested.” Wisconsin won 31-24.

Looks to me like his linebackers were tested more than his secondary.
A 66% completion percentage for only 6 yards/pass isn’t throwing the ball very far.
The 3.9ypcarry is generally considered a better mark than 6yppass, if I remember right. Those 4 interceptions are the reason why.
