Derek Dooley Suggests Flag Football, Tyler Bray Eats, and Other Actual Newsworthy Bits
There is a TON of hot, steaming, fresh information in the wake of the first practice of the 2011 UT football season yesterday. Almost all of it can be traced back to Dooley's statements, a transcript of which can be found here, and the player's interviews embedded below the jump.
A couple of highlights: Wonder how Dooley feels about Greg Schiano's idea of doing away with the kickoff? Wonder no longer:
"We may as well take the pads off too and play flag football. It's hard for me to propose doing away with a play that's been in football since - we call it foot-ball. What's your question?"
From there, he launched into a statement about how most injuries can be attributed to poor form, so he wasn't completely clueless about Eric LaGrand's paralysis, but you get the idea he's not the overcompensating type.
Another highlight, because millions of inquiring minds NEED to know: Tyler Bray is "eating constantly." He says he eats pretty much "anything I can see in front of me," which is your cue to make your own jokes.
If you're wondering about actual news relating to the team, the bit on the roster is here. Tennessee is still only up to 79 scholarship players, six from the 85 permitted by the NCAA and won't be able to get to the max until next year. Dooley's pleased, though, because he's got so many more than he did last year and everything is relative, right?
Videos of player interviews are below the jump.
