PrintWell I have searched the web and looked at all the bio's on the names being tossed around for possible replacements for TN's Defensive Coordinator position and while it would probably not have the name recognition of some other guys I like what I have read about Spangler. I no longer can see TN bringing in Randy Shannon elsewise the deal would be in place, so I would like to see TN offer Spangler. He was a nominee or finalist for the Top Asst award this year and his defenses at La Tech seemed solid according to the numbers and that was facing high output offenses of similar caliber. Yes I realize it was La Tech versus non-sec competition but it seems reasonable to stand that with better players and better position coaches around him that he could be equally as successful as TN so I will say now if Dooley brings this guy from La Tech I will be a supporter of the hire. It probably won't be as popular but from what I have read it seems to pass the eye test.

Seriously though, Friday the 13th is coming up and it sure would be nice to have a DC in place to show off. Going to be hard to convince some of the elite players to sign with UT if all we have to offer is superior shower discipline.

I said the Randy Shannon talk was crap a week ago, and that’s proven to be the case. These “inside sources” are just fictional characters created for anonymous bloggers to give some measure of validity to their baseless speculation and dreaming. “Inside sources” said that the Shannon hire was going to be announced on Monday so it would be running on the ticker during the NC game. Funny, I watched the whole NC game, and I didn’t see anything…because “anonymous sources” don’t know what they’re talking about.
Feelslike98.com has lost any shred of credibility that it may ever have had.

Being from La Tech I am sure that is the perception and the reality is Spangler was hired by Dooley in the first place and retained by the coach there. I don’t think UT should go out and spend 1 mil on a DC hire just because its possible that he may be unemployed next year. Read his Bio and having Coordinator experience I think gives him an advantage over Sunseri, who has been coaching for how long and has never been a Coordinator. I am sorry I just don’t think if you are Dooley you have a trial run on your lone year you have left. Because right or wrong Dooley has next year to prove he deserves to continue being UT’s coach. Whether these internet poster guys have credibility or not, the reality of Dooley’s situation is that if he wins less than 7 games next year he will be fired. And if Hart is the hands on guy that likes success the way everyone says than I don’t think 7 will keep his job. So Dooley has to hire the guy he thinks will help him win the most games. And yes with National Signing day so close this needs to happen soon to prevent the guys he has committed from going elsewhere. But just because he coaches at La Tech doesn’t automatically disqulaify him in my opinion.

However everything up to this had stated he had never been a coordinator and one of the the shows specifically mentioned Never so that was what I was basing my statements on. However it still says it has been awhile and I wander about that??
