BREAKING : UT source confirms that John Palermo will be next defensive line coach for Vols.

Great hire imo and from all accounts, Dooley's primary target from the start.
Coached at Minnesota, Wisconsin, head coach at Austin Peay, Notre Dame, Miami, my brother-in-law at Tennessee Tech, D-line at Redskins and then MTSU.
Played at Florida State

VolBrian is a twitter fiend
this looks like a good hire as to actual game coaching. Don’t know about his recruiting ability. There would have to be concerns if he went from Miami to MTSU, right?
If I cared more about my UNC side, I'd call myself "Tar Volon," and that'd be awesome.

Well, I think it was a roundabout route.
He was the defensive coordinator at Tennessee Tech when my brother-in-law played LB there and he said the whole team knew Palermo didn’t belong there. Was too good of a coach.
Hello ladies. Look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly, he isn't me.
and apparently Hubbs is saying he can recruit
so sounds like a good hire to me

If Hubbs says it
bet on it. If Brent Hubbs isn’t the best sports journalist in East Tennessee, I’m not sure who is.
What would make someone go from Miami to Tennessee Tech?
Was that when Coker got swept out of Miami? Still, that’s an odd move.
Lou Brock loves Lamp.
Watson Brown handpicked him to coordinate the defense
Both came to Tech in 07

what does your brother-in-law have to say?

In addition to the comment above,
Universally loved by the team and the best coach he had ever had.

good to hear
it makes me nervous that Dooley is losing so many assistants, but it’s hard to argue with the resumes of pretty much anyone he’s hired. Except for Hinshaw and Joseph in 2010, but they’ve more than proven their worth in recruiting

Hinshaw may be the most underrated guy we have.
Seems like he’s in on every big Florida guy we get among others. I don’t know about his coaching but I don’t think he’s necessarily employed for it.

I think Spencer's point #9 on recruiting was written about Terry Joseph (and possibly Hinshaw)
Head coaches do close the deal in some cases, but for the most part assistants are doing the leg work of signing day, traveling, calling, visiting, and completing the final panicked texts to recruits before waiting by the fax machine and hoping for no surprises. Do you have a coach on your team who is charismatic, back-slapping, and you suspect knows very little about coaching football, and yet pulls down a huge paycheck? This person is your recruiting coordinator, and he is worth every dollar thanks to mysterious power he has over high-schoolers who can run a 4.4 and squat 500 pounds.

Edited my timeline up there, had it a little whacky.

And when you read my spelling of wacky right there think of Stewie Griffin saying it and it's all good

I've heard that SS wanted this and that is all I need to know
He brings credibility, experience and coaching skills. Any recruiting we get from him is gravy. I’d think those qualities mentioned will take him a long ways in recruiting. Man I hope we are seeing the beginning or a return to great Dline play at UT…been way too long.
I like this hire
I didn’t at the beginning but I do now.
