How’s the Rock Island? I’m beginning to yen for a 1911. It has nothing to do with getting to hold an unfired WWII issue on Super Bowl Sunday. (It was an heirloom. The guy’s grandfather bought from surplus on his way out the door after the war.)

Another thing I heard on the radio pre-game on the way home . . .
. . . Cuonzo said that his teams will always be toward the bottom in steals despite his emphasis on defense because he coaches his guys to smother on defense without taking undue risks. The high risk/high reward strategy of going for steals, he says, usually ends up out of balance on the negative side in points resulting from 5-on-4 matchups. So, solid, tough, but disciplined defense.

Ok... I'm officially impressed with Cuonzo...
bear in mind, I still consider Coach Pearl one of the very best college basketball coaches in the country… but Cuonzo has a Tennessee team that is under .500 continually playing extremely hard.
He has this team believing in SOMETHING, and that’s really difficult when you’ve had the struggles this team did in the non-conference schedule. I’m sure a large part of the improvement is Jarnell Stokes, but there has been some serious improvement in playing as a team and in individual performance.

Fixing to be tied for 7th after Arkansas finishes dying.
Could end up as high as 6th before our game at Florida.

I still think we’re in Florida’s heads a bit, or at least Donovan’s.
A win in the O-Dome is not out of the question, but it’s going to require our shooting to make a big improvement on the road… or Florida’s offense going in the tank.
