Athlon Sports interviewed SEC Coaches and received anonymous feedback on each team. The article is interesting for those who want a look at the other teams in the SEC.
Coaches basically said Tennessee laid down in a lot of games last year in the second half. We shouldn't be surprised by that comment if we watched the Kentucky game or the second half of a lot of our blowout losses.
"When they played hard they were good. But there were times when they just did not play hard. You can see that on film. When they play fast, they are good. But when they got down, they just shut it down.
The coaches also questioned our toughness. No surprise, since being mean is a critical run blocking component (along with being large, fast and strong). We won't re-plow that ground game discussion.
If you were at a combine, they are all the right height, the right size and have the right athletic ability, but I thought they lacked toughness.
They thought our defense was like sun-warmed Budweiser - only occasionally will it get the job done.
They didn’t have any real strengths defensively. They were just okay across the board.
On the plus side, they thought Sunseri was a good hire and spoke positively about Bray's physical attributes and our scary WRs.
To be fair, I can't disagree with much of that from our 5-7 performance last year. Let's hope we change their minds with a solid 8-10-14 win season.
