Phillips Admitted; Mitchell-Thornton Leaves

Several media outlets are reporting just before UT football coach Derek Dooley is set to take the podium for the introductory football practice press conference that there are a couple of roster developments for the Vols. The first and most important bit of news is former Florida commitment Dante Phillips -- a 6-foot-6, 325-pound defensive lineman who was one of the nation's top 200 players coming out of high school -- has been admitted to UT. Phillips will be eligible to play immediately in Knoxville and becomes one of UT's top three signees from this year's class. Phillips has also been cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse, so he should be on the field when UT takes it tomorrow. Also, rising senior linebacker Nigel Mitchell-Thornton has graduated from UT and decided not to continue his playing career. Mitchell-Thornton, who played sparingly as a freshman under Lane Kiffin, has not cracked the rotation since.
