Maxwell Pundit: week six

Here's the RTT Maxwell Pundit ballot for week six. Keep up with the national standings over at Rakes of Mallow.

1. Ohio State QB Troy Smith. An undefeated Erik Ainge. Wow, did I just type that?

2. Tennessee QB Erik Ainge. It's alive! It's time this guy gets some Heisman/Maxwell talk. It's one thing to throw up ridiculous numbers against Memphis. And Marshall. Oh, and Air Force. It's another to do it against Georgia. And, um, Cal, too. Shoot, even Ainge's game against the Gators got the team to within one point of defeating a potential national champion. So yeah, the jury's in, and they've reached their verdict. Ainge is good. Very.

BONUS hidden webcam video of David Cutcliffe in his basement over the summer:

3. Oh, and this is going to get me in trouble, but . . . Tennessee wide receiver Robert Meachem, who leads the nation in both receiving yards and sideline regurgitations per game. What receiver is better? Calvin Johnson? No. 11. Mario Manningham? No. 14. Nope, so far, it's Meach.

Uh, yeah . . . that's me.

4. Northern Illinois running back Garrett Wolfe.. Where's Wolfe? In the stratosphere of the rushing stats. Distorting the bell curve, this outlier still has a convincing, commanding, dominant, you-won't-never-catch-him lead over every other rusher in the nation, with an average of 236.20 per game. Perspective: West Virginia's Steve Slaton is third in the nation, with 153.60, and Oklahoma's Adrian Peterson is fourth, with 150.40. Good numbers, fellas, but you're still 80 away from Mr. Wolfe. Per game.

5. Oh, I don't know . . . how about Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson? Peterson's shouldering the load for the Sooners, and doing a fine job of it. 109 yards against the stingy Texas D is not too shabby. His hold on No. 5, though, is tenuous at best.

Also watching: West Virginia running back Steve Slaton, Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis, Pittsburgh QB Tyler Palko, and Arkansas running back Darren McFadden.
