Tennessee-South Carolina game day open thread

The Vols, hoping to halt a three-game skid, return home this evening to friendly Thompson-Boling Arena to take on unranked South Carolina. Tennessee, currently 13-5 overall and 1-2 in the SEC, are only six points away from 16-2 overall and 3-0 in the SEC. Instead, they find themselves fourth in the SEC East behind Kentucky, Florida, Georgia, and Vanderbilt.

Will the team generally, and Chris Lofton specifically, finally start getting the calls and getting to the free throw line?

Will the team reverse its recent tendency to start the second half in a stupor?

Will we be treated to another appearance by coach Hulk, perhaps with better results this time?

Fouls

We need to attck the basket more. If we do that we will draw more fouls and go to the line more. However, I am not sure that going to the line is a good plan for us. We are a terrible free throw shooting team.

The last couple of games, half the time we drove to the basket, we got our shot blocked. South Carolina is apparently very good at blocking shots, too, so I'm thinking the key will be not only driving to the basket, but pump-faking when we get there before we put it up. Of course, if our outside shots start falling, we may not need to get into the paint.

JuJuan Smith

Joel, we've got to come up with a nickname for JuJuan Smith. He might be the most underrated player in the SEC. Especially love his defense.

Needs a nickname alongside the Blender, Discombobulator, and DuWayne Chews.

Good to get a win

It wasn't the prettiest win I've seen, but it's good to see the Vols back in the W column after the recent string of heartbreaks.

Still waiting on word about Lofton. Oh, and JuJuan doesn't get a nickname until he makes up for that goofy play at the end.

Vols in trouble

I think if chris lofton is out several weeks. Then tennessee is headed to the nit. We were really on the verge of having a season last year until the misfortunes started happening at vanderbilt and ohio state. Wow what a different year it would have been if those 2 games went our way. I am not being negative but realistically the ncaa looks a long shot away if lofton is out a significant amount of time. We have to win at least 6 more games. Considering the way we play on the road and with a departed lofton this is going to be tough.
