Talking Points: Cutcliffe to Duke official, dominoes falling
Your Monday morning talking points:
- So it's official. Offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe is leaving for Duke. Steve Spurrier of all people advised Cutcliffe to take the job in part because the people there are "enthusiastic" and "hungry." Okay, then. The dominoes are already falling. Tennessee was "close to No. 1" in the eyes of the most-sought after quarterback recruit in the nation, Terrelle Pryor, but now they've been relegated to "in the mix, but on the back burner."
- If Trooper Taylor is offered the offensive coordinator position at Baylor and passed over for the same position on Rocky Top, we can expect him to leave, which would be a huge blow to the program. The man has "it." More on that "it" later, hopefully.
- John Adams says that Tennessee should consider some young innovative type for the OC position. Someone like Tulsa's Gus Malzahn or Georgia Southern's Chris Hatcher. Any chance that The Papa chucks Tradition and embraces that shiny new spread contraption? Nah. Schools like Tennessee don't do new. Or do they?
- Unrelated, but check out Peter's Baseball Hall of Fame Denotation Guide.

DAWGS POINT OF VIEW
Now Coach Phil has to find some one to fill Coach Cuts shoes. Where to start? well I would start at the top and work down. One place to look is as at Appy State OC. I don't know his name but any one who can lead their team to 3 back to back National Championships and knock off Big 10 Mich, got to be doing something right.
I know some of you stat guys out there could find out his name for me and most likely come up with a list of the top OC's in the country. It will give you guys some thing to work on.
I hope Coach Taylor will stick around cause he is fun to watch and he ain't to bad a Coach.
So the search is on. So let's wish Coach Phil lot's of luck in finding the right one.

Spurrier, eh?
To his credit though, Duke was a good stepping stone for Spurrier, and that recommendation is more substantial than, say, Buffalo. I still contend that you want your program to breed coaches to other programs, because coach-hopeful types get recruited much like players; the best ones try to go to places that will take their career the farthest. We want to be the place that the best want to go to.

[Sigh}
I feel like a kid who just got picked up by his ankles and shook by the school bully so his lunch money would fall out.
Ow, my soul hurts.
