A brief respite from the Getting to Know You stuff.

A little help. I'm compiling a list and clips of Tennessee's best/most important plays of last year for a bracket-style tournament of plays later this summer. For some reason, both of my Tivos missed the Marshall and Arkansas games. If anyone knows where I could find copies of these games, let me know. I'd be much obliged.

Speaking of SMQ, he may not have had much to say about the some 92,000 fans at Alabama's spring game, but what little he did say captured the whole thing into one tiny little nutshell: "Sometimes the absurdity of reality renders parody obsolete."
And speaking of Alabama, well, see for yourself. (Very minor language alert.)
Control thyself. First, results of the last poll: 61% of y'all think we should fire up the Rocky Top Talk football countdown clock "Now, now, now." 25% think we should wait until mid-summer, and 12% think we should wait until 30 days from kickoff. Expect it sometime between "now, now, now" and 30 days prior to kickoff. Discipline, folks.
The new poll asks which of the former Vols will go first in the NFL draft this weekend.
Editing ESPN. One other thing you should not have missed last week: Burnt Orange Nation redlines ESPN's press release on its coverage of the upcoming NFL draft.
Fully loaded. Did you see this? Virginia Tech is developing a helmet that wirelessly monitors the number and severity of hits a player takes. Pretty cool.
You're a geek. Just concede the point and move along. Also from Fanblogs is a list of football schedules in ical format, which means you can import them into Outlook, Google Calendar, and other calendaring programs. Tennessee's is here.
Be careful what you ask for. GVX's Mike Strange has an interesting piece contrasting coaches Fulmer and Pearl. Headline: Pearl wants Fulmer-like expectations ($).

Holy Crap, Joel! Where do I start? Guess I'll just rundown the list:

No help on the Marshall/Arky clips. Were there even any "best" plays out of Arksansas, other than "Humanity Advanced" running/throwing all over Shields-Watkins Field?
Alabama video: Funniest! Movie! Ever! If you haven't tossed that one over to Orson yet, I'm going to! Priceless!
I wish I could have laughed at PB's redline of ESPN's release, but I couldn't. It was all factual.
Interesting article on the VT helmet thingamajigs. They've got a great application and great theory behind the desire to measure impacts, but I see many drawbacks to the system both in the technical devlopment and to the gameplay itself. Would athletes perform any differently if they know they're being monitored for "damage"? Specifically, would a WR pull up on a Post route, knowing that he's going to get smacked by the safety, out of fear of being pulled from the game by the team Dr.? Would the safety pull up for similar reasoning? Would they both pull up? Would the "damage factor" come into play for the NFL Draft? Instead of talking about "He's not durable because he missed half of his career with nagging injuries" they'll be saying "Yeah, he was a 4 year starter, never missed a game, but his body has taken twice as many 'big hits' than this other similar guy." Maybe this is a good topic for a journal (I still refuse to call them 'diaries') entry.
And get that countdown clock up! Yeah, we're not Alabama, but some of us can still be pretty obsessive over our own team! Help us out! (Just over 4 months to go!)

Interesting thoughts on the helmet thing. Reminds me of the whole discussion about whether we ought to know what our DNA says about our future health and whether insurance companies ought to have access to that data.
I don't know if Orson's seen the 'Bama vid or not, so feel free to tip him.
I don't really remember any plays during the Arkansas game except Meachem getting tackled every time the ball was snapped, but I'm obsessive about having copies of the old games, and not having those two is eating at me.
