Message to the NCAA and university athletic departments: Sports blogging is evolving, and it will do so with or without you. I'd prefer with.
For what it's worth, ESPN's Mark Schlabach has identified Tennessee signee Eric Berry as the No. 2 freshman to watch this season. Jimmy Clausen is No. 3, and Arrelious Benn (a receiver for Illinois) is No. 1.

Speaking of the Gamecocks, I got to know one of them really, really well the past two days. I had planned to get ahead on my posts this weekend, but Friday evening at about 5:30, Orson had an idea, and there went Saturday's and Sunday's discretionary time and my good intentions along with it. Keep an eye on EDSBS.com this morning for the result. I'll probably post it here once it goes live over there.
