TENNESSEE WIDE RECEIVERS GERALD JONES AND AHMAD PAIGE CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA

GVX reports that Reggie Bush-ish Tennessee wide receiver Gerald Jones (RTT#7) and co-10 Jar wide receiver Ahmad Paige (RTT#4) were charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana after being stopped for a burned-out tag light at 10:41 p.m. Friday in Knoxville. They gave consent to search the vehicle, so, wow.

Oh, and double-nice, they were showing Jameel Owens of Oklahoma, who was in town on a recruiting visit, around.

Guys, you are killing me.

Recently hired-from-Richmond-wide-receivers-coach Latrell Scott, welcome to your new position at Tennessee.

Argh.

Who Cares?
I know many of you on this site are reactionarily anti-weed because you were raised that way...but there are worse things than "the (scary, evil) reefer"

They could have been drunk, beating up a girlfriend, trashing property, getting into fights, etc.

They had some weed.  Not. A. Big. Deal.

Here's who cares:
The law cares. The university cares. The parents of the recruit who turned their son over to the football team for the weekend probably care, and the parents of countless other recruits who will hear this story as an example of "how they do things at Tennessee" will care.

If you want to argue whether or not "the reefer" should be illegal, then feel free, you might have a point. And you're right, there are worse things they could have been doing.

But from a football standpoint, with the rules that are in place, you're wrong: This. Is. A. Big. Deal.

Reputation
I, for one, am not reacting to the weed, but to the illegal activity that will once again receive national attention for our program. We don't want that, right?
Go Vols!

Wrong Debate
For full-disclosure, I agree with your premise.

However, regardless of one's opinion on the use/regulation of recreational drugs, the fact remains that the guys were caught in the wrong.

As mentioned by me below, The Fulmer Cup, if you haven't heard of it, is a satirical means to track college football players behaving badly.  While the arrest may seem petty in the grand scheme of things, it gives great fodder for those of us with a scarcastic sense of humor who can laugh at 'misfortunes' of our own team and of other's teams.

Dang it
Volter Ego, you beat me to the punch by a few minutes (actual 'work' interfered with my non-timely posting)!

DT William Brimfield was also ridin' dirty in the Jones-mobile, but was not arrested.

I believe this is (quite appropriately) the opening score for the annual "Fulmer Cup", brought to you by our friends at EveryDayShouldBeSaturday.com.  Looks like Tennessee is up, 2-0!  WOOOO!!!

Great way to reel in recruits, Gerald and Ahmad (William, too)!  I wonder how many `recruits' LaMarcus brought in?  Hmmmm.

LIke a holiday
We should mark this on our calender, a Vols getting busted with weed is like Christmas. Let's start calling it James Banks Day.

i still say not a big deal
i hear the concerns about what this does to recruiting and the mindset of parents of recruits...but weed and the vols go together like a bowlegged woman and a knock kneed man

this incident is a minor, regularly scheduled blip on the off season radar for the vols and ohhhhh...90% of D1 programs.

i propose we now call the "G-Gun" formation the "Puff, Puff, Give" formation

Worst Part
The worst part for me is that they had a recruit on a campus visit with them. How do parents feel about there kids to coming to visit UT now.
