Tennessee Volunteers v. Alabama Crimson Tide: stats comparison
Well, I said that I was going to thieve an idea from Tru (nobody, nobody does basketball better than Tru), and here's the first attempt. It's not quite where I want it yet, but it will have to do for this morning. No deltas because I haven't yet figured out an efficient way to get the stats into a spreadsheet and doing the math manually, well . . . let's just call it "uncomfortably high probability of error." That, and "lazy." So . . .

Num63er5!
I didn't think it was possible to shoot a worse FT% than the Vols. Guess I was wrong.

Quick hits:
- Fouls per game A large part of this is a function of the style of play. When you pick up the pace and run a full court game intended to break down predesigned plays, you run a higher risk of fouls. If it works, the trade-off is worth it, though, so the fpg mark is not as troublesome as if we were a more traditional half-court team.
- Steals per game Since only 4 conference games have been played, this one has a very high variance to it. (Well, so do the rest, but here goes anyhow.) Games like the Kentucky game where ball control was better executed drop our stats in a hurry on this one.
- Blocks per game Yikes. Better hope we keep the pace up and don't rely too much on established plays.
- Overall The signs point toward UT, obviously. It's not enough to assume a victory (to me, that's about 95% confidence), but it's enough to expect one (probability of winning greater than 50%). They should win this one. It's the Mississippi State game that we should be worried about. (Fatigue.)

Nicely done, Joel ...
You're welcome to steal anything, anytime. Well, almost anything -- live my wife alone! ;-)
