I like the strategy - keep them on the perimeter.  I hope the Vols stick with that and don't allow penetration.  The problem so far is ball control on offense - too many turnovers.  But it's still early and still a close game.  Nothing to worry about yet.

Both teams are above average on FT's.

Both are down on FG's.

A few steals are more the effect of bad passing than good defense.

No chance for UT to block - too many perimeter shots.

Too much nervous energy.  Bench depth may be very important in the second half.

I'm surprised to see that the TO margin was about equal, but disappointed that UM fanagled 6 (SIX?!) steals.  

I also thought that UT held the pace back as far as getting shots off.  Maybe that was part of our scheme tonight.  Keep posession -- but then again that's led to 6 steals and other TOs off of sloppy ball handling.

Prediction: Lofton will get angry . . .
. . . for the first time in his career. Earlier this season, when Lofton was similarly being held by the opponent, Pearl said post-game that Lofton was too nice and that he would have popped somebody if he'd been held like that the whole game.

With what's happened, I imagine Pearl is letting Lofton have it and will prod him to get more aggressive on resisting the holds.

Or . . . he could continue to be held the entire game.

Pearl's right
This game is technically a free game for both teams.  Right now, even with a loss, both teams are looking at a #1 seed.  The real value here is that they both get a chance at tournament energy and intensity without the risk of getting beat out of the tourney.  Both coaches get a chance to see how their teams respond to the nervous energy and the hype.  This should make both teams very dangerous in the middle rounds of the tourney.
