The 2007 College Football Blogger Awards: Best YouTube

If you're just joining us this morning, we're announcing the winners for the 2007 College Football Blogger Awards today and tomorrow on sites all over the college football blogosphere. This year's host, Every Day Should Be Saturday, kicked things off earlier this morning by presenting this year's award for the Funniest Blog.

BEST YOUTUBE

Runner-Up

The runner-up goes to Every Day Should Be Saturday for Don't You Want Me, Saban. Orson gets top billing for this, um, masterpiece because (1) that's his voice, and (2) the most recent comment at YouTube on the video is "whoever made this video is an idiot." So there you go.

And the winner is . . .

Star-divide

. . . oranse's Limited Fake Mike Gundy Downgrades the Weather.

September 22, 2007 was not your typical Saturday afternoon in Stillwater, Oklahoma's Boone Pickens Stadium. The Oklahoma State Cowboys had just won a "wild shootout for the ages," beating Texas Tech 49-45, but coach Mike Gundy wasn't interested in that. Noooooo, he wanted to talk about newspapers. And reporters. And his age.

Yes, instead of riding the wave of post-victory jubilation, Gundy unleashed a tirade for the ages on Jenni Carlson of The Oklahoman, who had penned a column critical of former Oklahoma State quarterback Bobby Reid. The entire rant was, of course, immediately uploaded to YouTube for posterity:

That particular version of the episode has been viewed some 660,000 times on YouTube alone. According to Wikipedia, the verbal screed "generated discussion about what constitutes fair criticism for players that welcome the adulation of the press when things are going well for them." Bah. What's really important is that it generated a steady stream of parodies and other entertaining bits, the best of which is oranse's Limited Fake Mike Gundy Downgrades the Weather, the winner of the 2007 CFBA for Best YouTube:

Chest bumps to SEC Football Blogger and Gate 21, who both shined the light on this beauty during the nomination process.

Head over to Burnt Orange Nation at around 10:00 EST, at which time Peter will present the CFBA for this year's funniest post.

Thanks for the chest bump
Thanks for the chest bump. He actually sent that to my digg account and told me I should put it on my blog. I posted it on Ballhype and then it hit SI.com and several others. I am not taking credit. I am just happy I was a small part of this great clips success.
