Rocky Top Talking Points: spring ladies all-star walking boot edition

  • The football team's spring practice schedule has been set. Practices are 2/22, 2/24, 2/27, 3/1, 3/3, 3/6, 3/8, 3/20, 3/22, 3/23, 3/24, 3/27, and 3/29. Fans Day will be on 3/31 from 12:30 to 1:30, with the Orange and White Game following at 2:00. Let's hope they plan better for Fans Day this year than they did last year.
  • The Lady Vols bounced back from a disappointing loss to Duke earlier this week with a 67-57 win over Vanderbilt. Senior Sidney Spencer had a career-high 26 points, and Candace Parker hit a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Robert Meachem will participate in the State Farm College Football All-Star Challenge -- a skills-and-drills competition -- which will air February 3 on ESPN from 4:00 to 6:00 EST.
  • Chris Lofton is out of his protective ankle boot and his ankle is "get[ting] some nice discoloration" (apparently a good thing), but coach Hulk "doubts" ($) that he'll be able to play at Kentucky on Sunday. There are only eleven games left, and the Vols are currently 10-7 overall and 2-3 in the SEC. Mr. Conventional Wisdom (he lives with the legal industry's Reasonable Person somewhere in Hawaii) says that the Vols will need at least an 8-8 record in the SEC to make the NCAA Tournament. Games remaining on the schedule:

    • at Kentucky

    • Georgia

    • at Florida

    • LSU

    • Vanderbilt

    • Kentucky

    • at South Carolina

    • Alabama

    • at Arkansas

    • Florida

    • at Georgia

Anybody see six more wins in there anywhere? Me neither.
