- So the Florida Gators play Ohio State for the National Championship tonight. Are you rooting for or against the Gators? I mean, do you root for the SEC over the Big 10, or are you like that Alabama message boarder in Warren St. John's book Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer, who, if he were instead a Volunteer fan would have said something like, "Son, I'd cheer for Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Russia, and the University of Hell before I'd ever do the Gator chomp." If it matters, we have received a special visit from an Ohio State fan the other day. Orson's kicking off a busy day with a podcast featuring himself, Bruce Feldman, Andy Staples of the Tampa Tribune, and Brian Cook.
- Vol fans had their share of bad news the last couple of weeks. First, the football team lost yet another bowl game. Then even God got off the bandwagon, telling Robert Meachem to go pro, and the almighty dollar lured Nick Saban to Alabama. This past weekend, though, things started looking up, as stellar recruits Ben Martin and Chris Donald committed to the Volunteers, the basketball Vols improved to 13-2 with a win over Mississippi State, and both LSU's JaMarcus Russell and South Carolina's Sidney Rice have decided to follow Meachem to the pros.
- We have finalized the official nominee list for the 2006 College Football Blogger Awards and will announce them beginning at 8:00 EST on Wednesday.
- In addition to the CFB Awards, expect another big announcement here at Rocky Top Talk in the next day or two.
All for now. Have a great day.
