Talking points: what do you wanna do this summer edition?

Housekeeping!

What do y'all most want to see over the summer months? Both hooper and I have several things cooking, but I'm interested in what most interests you. A few of the things we're working on:

  • A Best Plays of 2007 Tournament like the one we did last year. Sample here.
  • A review of the 2007 football season. I like doing this for a few reasons: (1) It catalogs the season for future reference (see The Season of Which We Do Not Speak), (2) looking back on the games and the season several months later often brings insight of which you're otherwise deprived; and (3) we tend to remember our memories of events more than we remember the events themselves. The magic is in the re-telling.
  • A series on understanding the spread offense and figuring out how to defend the thing. As usual, beating Florida is key to the season. What do we have to do to get it done?
  • Previewing the 2008 football season, including in-depth looks at the Class of 2008 (like last year's Getting to Know the Class of 2007), previews of Tennessee's 2008 team, and previews of our 2008 opponents.
  • A series on the single wing. We caught a brief glimpse of Tennessee Volunteer history at this year's Orange and White game. Is it in our future as well?
  • Hooper and I are also putting our heads together to improve the speed at which we can post animated drive charts and stats of football games (so we can do more of them) and, perhaps, increase the amount and kind of data those things will display (so they'll show individual plays within drives, etc.).
  • An open discussion and sort of group project attempting to create a system to rank college football teams. There are reasons a lot of those computer polls are wacky. Maybe if we all work together we can create something with a minimum of weird.

Those are just ideas, by the way, so all or none of them could happen. If there's something you'd like to see more that's not on the above list, or if there's something on the list about which you couldn't care less, leave it in the comments below.

A couple of other notes:

  • Rocky Top Talk will be migrating to the new platform this Thursday. I'll post a reminder Wednesday just so you don't think you fell asleep in Rocky Top and woke up in Oz.
  • I'll be on vacation beginning this Friday. I'm not sure yet whether I'll be blogging, doing special projects, or taking a bona fide break to do absolutely nothing productive. If anyone's interested in guest-posting, email me, and we'll talk.
