RTT's SEC Power Poll ballot for this week. The numbers repeatedly referred to below are the same ones I use for the RTT BlogPoll ballot. This week, however, I did actually adhere to the "power poll" concept by basically just guessing who I thought would be beat whom on a neutral field. Still, the numbers from the teams' respective resumes aren't irrelevant, so you know.
- Florida. Based on what they did to Miami and Georgia's struggles against South Carolina, I'd say Florida beats the Gators Dawgs relatively comfortably. The Gators have a potent offense and a defense that appears to be even better than South Carolina's, which is very good. Doom for Dawgs.
- Georgia. Georgia's still the second-best team, though, and perhaps they worked out the kinks against Spurrier. Let's hope not.
- LSU. Too early to tell, really, but the Tigers' defensive stats appear to be even better than Florida's. Of course, they haven't played Miami, either, but . . .
- Alabama. One good game, one stinker. Who knows?
- Kentucky. Surprise! 'Cats here despite losing Andre' Woodson!
- Auburn. First in the country in third down defense. Third in opponents' points per game. Giving up a mere safety in an entire game will do that. Good thing they scored a field goal.
- Tennessee. I want to like this team, I really do. Losing to UCLA, who lost 59-0 to BYU, though, ouch. Scoring a mere 14 points against the nation's second-worst defense in the first half of the game and scoring nearly two touchdowns less against them than did Tulsa and Florida Interatlanticcontinentaldivide, oy. At least there's always . . .
- Vanderbilt. Yeah, I know. Not always.
- South Carolina. Spurrier looked like a mad man against Georgia, hair ruffled, crazed eyes. He's only a few years from the Alzheimer's Unit at the nursing home, I think.
- Mississippi. This team wears red and blue.
- Arkansas. This team ran its coach off last season and is settling nicely into the bottom of the league.
- Mississippi State. Self-Croom.
