I don't have a lot of time to pretty this up, but it needs said so I'll keep it minimalist.
A tale of two perspectives:
1ne) I've been out of the loop for a bit, but evidently the criticism from the fanbase at UT has been enough for Bruce Pearl to make public recognition of it. Between the team asking for fan support (asking!) and Pearl suggesting that unsatisfied fans might be a sign of an unreasonable working environment, it would seem that UT fans (at least a few of them) are on the verge (at least to some degree) of losing the luster of the honeymoon with the basketball coach.
2wo) Up in Chicago after the afternoon curling game, I checked up on the basketball game to see that UT had just won the Auburn tilt. Upon announcing that to the other members of the UT team, somebody from Northwestern (who just happened to be walking past at the moment) heard me. She stopped, her eyes brightened up, she turned to me, and said something along the lines of "Tennessee basketball? With that one coach? He's a really awesome guy. I just love him!"
Everybody can have their opinions. I think I'll stick with 2wo.
(And yes, I reminded her of Pearl's name.)
