Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley will not participate in his weekly teleconference with the media, according to Patrick Brown of the Chattanooga Times Free Press. Instead, offensive coordinator Jim Chaney will fill in. Chaney is in his fourth season at the University of Tennessee.
Dooley is recovery from hip surgery that he underwent on Tuesday. The surgery successfully repaired his broken hip, and Dooley is expected to coach the Vols' Week 7 game against Mississippi State from the press box.
Tennessee is currently 3-2, but 0-2 in Southeastern Conference play. Dooley and the Vols are entering the toughest part of their schedule this week when they face off against the undefeated Mississippi State Bulldogs. That game will take place at 9 p.m. Saturday.
Tennessee will then host No. 1 Alabama. The following week, the Vols visit the South Carolina Gamecocks. For Tennessee, their next three opponents have a combined record of 16-0.
