The football roster has been updated at utsports.com, and Quenshaun Watson isn't on it, confirming speculation from this weekend that Watson would not be returning for his sophomore season at Tennessee. Watson had 23 carries for 66 yards (2.9 yards per carry) and one touchdown in his freshman season. While no reason has been given for his departure, it is worth noting that Jones' success at Cincinnati came with somewhat bigger backs, and the 5'9", 175 pound Watson doesn't fit the mold. Additionally, Jones has been pushing hard for running backs in the 2013 recruiting class.
Watson's departure makes seven members of Derek Dooley's 2012 recruiting class who are no longer with the program less than a year after signing.
On a more positive note, the updated roster shows that the five early enrollees from the 2013 recruiting class made it in with no problems. Welcome to Tennessee, Riyahd Jones, Corey Vereen, Paul Harris, Jalen Reeves-Maybin, and Lemond Johnson!
