Tennessee football head coach Butch Jones is a man of many goals, but one the most important goals for this Saturday's Orange and White Game is to have fans leave feeling good about this fall:
"We want them to see a vision," he said. "To see a style of play that’s disciplined and fundamentally sound. We will be a blue-collar football team, a team they can relate to."
Here's to hoping for hopeful on Saturday.
Hey, look. A "fast-rising" 6'3" defensive tackle from the state of Tennessee who's interested in the Vols. Go get him, Butch. The Vols did offer Rivals 3-star defensive back Darin Smalls from South Carolina. Smalls doesn't know much about Tennessee yet, but is anxious to listen.
Speaking of big guys, I was initially reading this report that Tennessee has landed the commitment of a 6'10", 250-pound JUCO as a football story. Try to throw over that. But Rawane "Pops" Ndiaye is a basketball commit. The angle on this is that he's the fifth recruit, and there are only three scholarships available. Jordan McRae is coming back, but we don't yet know about Jarnell Stokes. Something's got to give.
Etceteras. GVX has a list of the Volscars winners. Alas, there seems to be no video of coaches rapping or any other shenanigans this year. . . . David Blackburn is one of three finalists for the UTC athletic director job. I can't really quantify this, but for some reason I think this guy is undervalued at UTK, and while I hope the best for him, I'll be glad if he stays. . . . If you haven't yet, become a backer of the Rocky Top Tennessee 2013 Kickstarter project.
