Tennessee Baseball Inks 12 in Early Signing Period

The first day of the fall early signing period for 2015 is over, and the Vols have secured 12 Letters of Intent for baseball.

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Butch Jones is not the only coach on the Hill rebuilding a program, and Dave Serrano's BaseVols took another step forward in the rebuilding process by signing 12 players in the early signing period for 2015. The class is anchored by the consensus #1 catcher in the nation, Chris Betts.  He is the Vols' highest rated baseball recruit since Casey Kelly in 2008 (who had signed for football and baseball, but ended up going pro after being drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 1st round of the MLB Draft).

The Vols are currently 12th in Perfect Game's 2015 recruiting rankings, which places them 6th in the SEC (4th in the East) after #1 Vanderbilt, #2 Florida, #4 Mississippi State, #7 South Carolina, and #8 Texas A&M. Coach Serrano is attempting to get his fourth straight top-20 class, after finishing 13th in 2014, 14th in 2013, and 20th in 2012. Tennessee has finished with a ranked class every year since hiring Serrano, whereas the previous staff had not had a ranked recruiting class since 2009.
