No one seems to have any idea how many recruits Tennessee plans on taking in the current recruiting class. Initial speculation swirled around the idea that the Vols would sign a smaller class of around 18-20 recruits. However, any thoughts of a smaller class have been swept away by the recruiting storm that Butch Jones and the rest of the coaches have been creating out in the field, with seemingly non-stop recruiting events, visits from top-ranked recruits, and commitments. With the 2015 recruiting class sitting at 20 verbal commitments, it's time to look at the numbers and see what we can figure out.
Prompted by an excellent piece from State of the U (your source for all things Hurricane-related), I've created the following table, which shows all of the current scholarship players on the Tennessee roster, along with all of the verbally committed high school players. Although I don't expect this project to be completely accurate (because schools don't have a handy way to keep track of awarded scholarships), I'll do my best to update with commitments and de-commitments. Note that scholarships awarded to former walk-on players have not been tracked.

The Vols are currently 7 scholarships under the 85-man NCAA roster cap with another 11 seniors on track to graduate, for a total of 18 available scholarships. Any additional players signed in the 2015 class would have to be preceded by departures of current scholarship players, up to the SEC maximum class size of 25 players. For those of you keeping track, that would be seven non-senior players leaving the roster if a regular 25 man class was signed (25 max - 11 seniors - 7 open scholarships = 7 player departures needed).
