Vols Add Elite 2016 TE Devante Brooks

The coaching staff continues to reel in elite talent with the addition of Washington DC's Devante Brooks

Phil Sears-USA TODAY Sports

The recruiting momentum for the Vols continues to surge as they reach into the Washington DC area for 2016 Rivals100 tight end Devante Brooks.  Brooks is listed at 6'5" & 220lbs and is currently a four-star tight end recruit by 247Sports as well as being the nation's 13th best defensive end.

Brooks had offers from several top programs including Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, North Carolina and West Virginia, as well as receiving significant interest from Ohio State and Penn State.  Brooks suffered a torn ACL last season while attending an Ohio State camp.  The injury forced him to miss his junior season, which most likely prevented him from receiving offers from the Big Ten powers.  Brooks is expected to be 100% by the spring, after undergoing successful surgery in August to repair the ACL.

Devante made his announcement this morning via his Twitter account:

Davante Brooks Commitment

After reviewing some of his film, I can say that Devante Brooks displays great hands for a player of his size.  He also has shown the willingness and attitude to be a dominant point-of-attack run blocker.  His 6'5" frame should allow him to develop into quite the specimen at tight end for the Vols.

Brooks will add much needed depth to the tight end position in 2016, as the only scholarship tight ends currently scheduled to be on the roster by next season are Ethan Wolf, A.J. Branisel, Kyle Oliver and possibly Neiko Creamer, if he does indeed stay at the tight end position.  The Tennessee coaches love to create mismatches by utilizing multiple tight end sets and an athlete prospect like Brooks fits perfectly with what they are trying to accomplish.  This is a big get for them Vols!
