Late in the second quarter against Vanderbilt Tennessee fans were getting a little antsy. The Vols led 20-14, but Vandy's two touchdowns were more than we were planning on giving up all day. The Commodores had stayed in it long enough to believe, with halftime approaching and rumblings of playing to our competition and taking one's foot off the gas.
And then Vandy punted away to Cam Sutton, and Tennessee found a spark. You can tell how well the return game had been going for Tennessee this year in the way the Neyland Stadium crowd amps up the volume as soon as Sutton makes one move:
Sutton's return gave Tennessee a 27-14 lead at halftime, which was then extended to 29-14 on the Derek Barnett safety we had in our countdown at #19. That led to a 24 point surge from the offense, an exclamation point on the 2015 regular season, and the sixth kick or punt returned for a touchdown this year by Tennessee.
