Tennessee at Arkansas State: Game Thread

Can the Vols rebound this week?

David Manning-USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee continues on their road trip this week as they stop at Arkansas State tonight before heading down to Ole Miss for a weekend series. The Vols took one game against the now top ranked Vanderbilt Commodores over the weekend but were defeated soundly in games one and three.

Hunter Martin will return as the midweek starter this week after being roughed up Sunday, where he was charged with four earned runs and only recorded one out. Tennessee also will have some changes in the lineup going forward due to two injuries suffered in last Saturday's game. Andy Cox strained his oblique and is day-to-day going forward. Zach Warren, who had been in the midweek slot the past three weeks, is being moved to the bullpen to provide another lefty option while Cox is out. Vincent Jackson hurt his thumb in the eight inning of that same game as he was trying to reach second on a two-RBI single. According to Coach Serrano things aren't looking good. They should have received the MRI results last night so I'd anticipate we'll find out today if he is out for the rest of the year.

Tennessee is 2-2 all-time against Arkansas State. The only meeting in the last forty years between the programs was in 2013 in Knoxville, where the Vols sped away to a 12-3 victory after falling behind early. This will be the first meeting in Jonesboro (the other three meetings were in Tuscaloosa).

With the two of the three highest ranked SEC opponents on the schedule behind them the Vols have a chance to make up some ground this week against Ole Miss.
