Tennessee Vols at Kentucky Wildcats: Weekend Series Thread

The past week has not been kind to Vol Baseball as they have dropped three straight after opening the Missouri series with a win last Thursday.  They head north tonight looking to add to the win column as they play the middle three games of their five game road trip at Kentucky.

The Vols started strong at MTSU on Tuesday, taking the early 2-0 lead in the first on an Andrew Lee two-run home run.  They retook the lead in the fourth thanks to two MTSU errors but again were unable to retain the lead and ended up falling 7-5 in Murfreesboro.  Tennessee's pitchers combined to give up nine hits and nine walks on the night.

Tennessee has won two series in a row against Kentucky, which helped build Tennessee's all-time series record to 155-132. Last season saw the Vols win two out of three against the Wildcats after being blasted 15-1 in the opening game of the series.

The Vols are currently sitting tied for 13th place in the SEC, 1/2 game behind Kentucky for the final SEC tournament slot.  The bottom two-thirds of the league are fairly close in the standings at the halfway point of conference play, with only two games separating 6th from 14th place.  Hopefully the Vols can get a few wins this weekend and work their way to Hoover.
