Tennessee is on the road for the second straight weekend as they travel to Oxford to take on Ole Miss. The Rebels are currently eighth in the SEC, two games ahead of the Vols. With Auburn and Arkansas (both a game ahead of the Vols) playing each other this weekend a series victory would help Tennessee quite a bit in the standings.
Tennessee started off the week in Jonesboro, Arkansas Wednesday where they took on Arkansas State. Thunderstorms delayed the start of the game by an hour and 48 minutes. The Vols took the lead early, thanks to a Nick Senzel leadoff double and an AJ Simcox RBI-single. Hunter Martin ran into trouble for the second start in a row, where he loaded the bases in the first, and gave up three runs in the second on a walk and three doubles. Christin Stewart was on point though, hitting a three run homer in the fifth and a two run homer in the ninth to help the Vols to the 7-4 victory. It was the first error-free game for the Vols since game one of the Georgia series.
We will see a slight adjustment to the rotation this weekend, with Kyle Serrano returning to the rotation for the Friday game and Bret Marks and Drake Owenby both moved back a day.
Vincent Jackson received his MRI results on his thumb and it looks like he will probably miss the rest of the season, as his surgery will sideline him for 6-8 weeks. If the Vols make a run in the SEC tournament (or make a regional) there is a chance he could be healthy by then.
Ole Miss leads the all-time series with Tennessee 34-44-1, and are 8-2 in the last 10 meetings. The last time the teams played was in April of 2013, where the Rebels got a three game sweep in Knoxville. The Vols have not recorded a series victory against them since 2010.
