Tennessee vs Missouri: Weekend Series Thread

The Vols are up against another ranked opponent.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee is back in action tonight as they host the Missouri Tigers.  Thunderstorms moved through the area on Tuesday and forced the Western Carolina game to be canceled, the ninth weather related cancellation or postponement on the year.  Tennessee is coming off of a series victory at Ole Miss where they won two out of three over the weekend.

Christin Stewart put together an outstanding week, going 7-for-14 with three homers, ten RBIs, and six runs to earn SEC Player of the Week and NCBWA Hitter of the Week awards.  Stewart will not be the only SEC player of the week in the stadium this weekend, as Missouri's Tanner Houck is the reigning Pitcher of the Week and is scheduled to start on Saturday.

The Vols are at home after a seven game road trip as they host Missouri, who are currently sitting in third place in the SEC. The Tigers have won series against South Carolina, Florida, and Georgia, with their only SEC series loss being to top-ranked Texas A&M. Depending upon the publication, they are ranked anywhere from 16th to 23rd.

Tennessee is 4-2 all-time against the Tigers, winning both series played between the programs two-to-one since Missouri joined the SEC. Tennessee took a double header 5-1 and 4-1 last year in Columbia after dropping the opening game.

This weekend we'll see another change to the rotation, with Andy Cox moving to the Friday spot instead of Kyle Serrano.  It will be Cox's first start since last season.  He has pitched in half of the Vols' games this year, going 24.1 innings with 8 earned runs and 24 strikeouts with a 0-1 record and 3 saves.
