With the last week of the season upon us Tennessee is currently sitting in 13th place in the SEC, one game behind the final SEC tournament seed which is currently occupied by Georgia. Tennessee closes out its non-conference schedule tonight as they host UNC Asheville. After taking on the Bulldogs the Vols will host a weekend series starting Thursday against Mississippi State, who are currently last in the SEC.
The Vols opened up this past weekend's series against Arkansas with a 5-4 victory. The Vols fell behind early but took the lead thanks to a three run seventh inning that saw Stewart and Simcox record RBIs and Stewart score on a wild pitch. Saturday's game was rained out and rescheduled for Sunday but the weather did not cooperate. Sunday saw only one game of the double-header played, which the Vols lost 5-2 in 7 innings. That loss, along with the missed game, means that Tennessee will need help to make the SEC Tournament.
Tennessee is 22-7 all-time against UNC Asheville, and have won 10 of the last 13 meetings. The last game between the schools was in May of last season, where the Bulldogs won 7-5 in Knoxville thanks to two late unearned runs. UNC Asheville is coming off of a series loss at High Point.
