The Tennessee Volunteers picked up another football commitment on Friday afternoon, this time from a highly-touted defensive end out of Georgia.
Chidi Okonya, rated as a 4-star defensive end by 247Sports, chose the Vols over Clemson, Georgia, Stanford, Duke, and almost two dozen other schools. Okonya is rated as the No. 266 overall player in the country according to 247Sports, and he's the 23rd best player in the state of Georgia.
Okonya is a big catch for the Vols, both literally and metaphorically. Okonya measures in at 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, possessing a huge frame that can add even more weight. Not only that, but Okonya has good athleticism and is a versatile player.
As a junior, Okonya made 21 tackles, a tackle for a loss, and a sack in 8 games (according to Max Preps). The Vols are deep at defensive line, but Okonya should be able to provide immediate depth as a freshman should he stay committed to the Vols.
The Vols now have 10 commitments in their 2016 class, and Okonya is the first defensive lineman to commit in the class. Okonya marks the 5th commitment for the Vols in the last month and a half.
