Tennessee needed help from Arkansas to make the SEC Tournament, today though the Vols look to send the Razorbacks home as they meet in Hoover. The Vols find themselves back in Hoover after being a game behind with two to play as well as two runs behind in the ninth inning of their last regular season game.
Tonight's game will be Tennessee's 14th trip to the SEC Tournament, where they hold a 25-22 record all-time. This will also be the first time in ten years that the Vols will be in back-to-back SEC Tournament fields. Last season the Vols took on the eventual national champion Vanderbilt Commodores in the tournament. The Vols had a shot in the ninth to tie up the game, but a line drive to third resulted in a double play that ended the threat.
Tennessee and Arkansas met two weekends ago in Fayetteville for a series. The Vols came from behind in game one to win 5-4. The Vols entered the seventh inning down 4-2 but Christin Stewart and AJ Simcox drove in a run each, and Stewart scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Game two was delayed until Sunday due to the weather, and only ended up being a seven inning game that the Razorbacks won 5-2. Game three was canceled.
Arkansas are making their 21st appearance in the SEC tournament, and their seventh in a row. They are 26-35 in SEC Tournament games. The Razorbacks and Vols have met twice in the tournament, both times in 2004 where UT won the opening round game 8-6 in 13 innings but were knocked out of the tournament later 4-1 by the Razorbacks.
The winner of tonight's match will advance to the double elimination stage of the tournament and play the night game tomorrow against the fourth seed Florida Gators. Survive and advance.
