Tennessee Vols at Mississippi State Bulldogs: game thread

Two teams desperate for a win face off this afternoon in Starkville.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Volunteers head to Starkville, Mississippi this afternoon to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs, both teams hungry for a win. The Vols are at 8-8 (1-3 in the SEC) and are still looking for their first road victory, and the Bulldogs are 7-8 (0-3 in the SEC) under first-year head coach Ben Howland. Let's just go ahead and call it The Hunger Game and get that joke out of the way.

Despite being under .500, the Bulldogs have some firepower. Senior forward Gavin Ware is getting 16.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, and both Malik Newman and Craig Sword average double digits in scoring. Watch out, too, for guard I.J. Ready, who averages more than 30 mintues and almost 10 points per game, and is an assist machine.

Kenpom.com is giving this one to Mississippi State, but only by three points, so it should turn out to be a good one to watch.

Go Vols.
