LINKS: Vols at #19 in College Football Playoff Rankings

But they’re #1 in our hearts. That and bouncyvols recaps, recruiting updates, and more: it’s your Wednesday links!

NCAA Football: Florida at Tennessee Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

Morning folks. First up- both basketvol squads were in action last night:

Rick Barnes’ new-look “Hubbs and a bunch of freshman” team earned their first win of the season last night in the Tommy Bowl, defeating Appalachian (NOT APPY) State 103-94. Box score here; Volundore has the complete breakdown. They next play #9 Wisconsin Monday in Lahaina, Hawaii, for their opening matchup of the Maui Invitational.

Meanwhile, in Johnson City, a local-record crowd of 6,072 saw the #13 Lady Vols improve to 3-0 with the defeat of ETSU, 83-58. The Lady Vols were led by a fantastic Diamond DeShields, who put up 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting with 10 rebounds and six assists. Small sample sizes, consider the competition, blahblahblah, but looking at some early back-of-the-envelope numbers: through their first three games, the Lady Vols are shooting (a probably unsustainable!) 49.3% from beyond the arc, good for 9.3 threes a game, compared to 25% and 3.6 last year. Maybe more importantly long-term, they’re currently attempting 18.6 threes a game, versus 14.3 in 2015. Hurrah for spacing!

In other Lady Vols news, Murfreesboro’s Anastasia Hayes (5* PG, No. 9 nationally overall) committed to the Lady Vols Monday, becoming the first commit of Tennessee’s ‘17 class.

Despite being (a little pointedly!) left out of the Coaches and AP polls the last couple weeks, Tennessee made their debut Tuesday in the ‘16-’17 Playoff Rankings at #19. Which is ahead of #23 Florida. Which is literally the only thing in the world LINKS cares about any more.

If reading a painstaking statistical breakdown of the Vanderbilt-Mizzou football game is how your want to spend your brief time on this earth, fly thee like the weaver’s shuttle hence. Tennessee is currently a 16.5 point favorite over the Tigers.

Make of it what you will, but Sunday 2017 Vols commit Chase Rogers (3* TE) reopened his recruitment, posting the following on the Twitters:

We’ll have a full injury report later in the week, but C Dylan Weisman, S Todd Kelly, and special-teams-person Daniel Bituli all left Saturday’s game with injuries. Monday Butch Jones said Weisman and Kelly were day-to-day.

Tennessee target K'Rojhn Calbert (3* OT, TN #19) of McMinnville, TN will announce his college choice at noon today, if you got those blurry-livestream/tables-with-hats feels going on.
